I’ve said it before but I’m going to say it again now that there is even more to appreciate.

I’m sure the folks who drive by (not sure how much can be seen from the road) must appreciate the buildings with the lights highlighting the red color siding. I bet it looks great!
I don’t think it can be seen from the road. It’s one of the reasons I put it so far back.

Here at night we don't dare have our place lit up. It makes us a target. We're just over 1/4 mile from the road behind the trees of an orchard and forest. Can't be seen from the road day or night, but the after glow of lights at night would pin point us to the unsavory. With the trees and no lights at night, it is usually very dark. The city slicker thugs are afraid of the very dark. It spooks them and they don't like stepping on noisy yard debris they can't see. We haven't had any problems since we killed the lights.

I live in a very safe area. You can’t drive but a few feet before you see a political sign and those signs are 100% in support of one party. People have scarecrows holding rifles in their yards. The police pull cars over with out of state plates. One neighbor has a truck with MN plates and she gets pulled over all the time. There are pockets of areas where you see the opposite political party but the nearest is about 20 miles away.

I was in Madison for three days at the VA Hospital. While I was gone several neighbors stopped at my home and played cards. There was always a car coming and going. I let them enter my house so it’s not empty. There are three people in the neighborhood that I don’t trust and they are friends with a mutual friend. They know my schedule.

My house is very visible from the road. If I were a criminal I would pick a more remote home to rob. I do hear of theft reports and they are all very remote homes. I’ve also been told of a drug problem a few years ago. The locals ran them out.

Okay end of rant.

Game camera. Catch them on sale on amazon, battery powered, sd cards. Point one at the road to the barn. Point one at the doors. Pull the cards every few days, once a week. Amazing clarity these days. If someone is sniffing around, you'll know, if something comes up missing, you will know who.

About 40% of the houses in Price County are empty vacation properties. Almost all home thefts are in unoccupied houses because there are so many of them. Many are far enough from the roads a moving van could park there for hours without being seen. Occupied home burglaries are very rare here in the country. Small towns are different.

With all the rain we get I can tell if someone has been in my driveway. I can usually tell who too by where the marks are in the road or lawn. It’s common to have someone in an ATV, gator, mule or side-by-side visit and they each leave different tire marks. With snow it’s even easier.

I’ve thought of getting a game camera and just might for the new shop.

We have cctv covering the main house and shops, hard wired with cables so the signals can't be pirated. I picked up four game cameras in two packs on sale and they cover the two distant pasture gates, the coop, and the old barn. With my old career, I don't consider it paranoia, I consider it a response t knowing what really goes on. ;)

A few months after we moved in, a group of juveniles were raving recklessly up and down our tertiary back road on dirtbikes. I don't mind them riding on the roads out here, but they were going way too fast, riding wheelies, and not wearing gloves or helmets. The road is in sad shape, with cracks, potholes, and shifted sections. We were afraid one of them would get hurt. Tina walked out to speak to them and they appeared to listen, but then road off riding wheelies, and made a u turn and blew past again, even faster.

Called the sheriff's office, and when he arrived the deputy asked if we knew any of them. "WE don't, but you might. I pulled up the footage on the flat screen, he laughed. I know them all, and their parents. I'll handle it." Funny, they don't ride by anymore. Those that do, ride by, they don't fly by.

My shop was spray foamed today. I haven’t really looked at it close. It sure is quieter.
