Some ol' frontier pistol work...

Wind 70mph today, a little more than yesterday. Instead of the Henry rifle, thought I'd just take my 45 Colt revolver with me today. The 1871 Colt Richards cartridge conversion. 8" barrel, V-notch rear sight in the cocked hammer. Love shooting this pistol. Not quite the Davis Tutt /Bill Hickock 75 yd duel but I bet they didn't have a windy day...

20 yds, 1-hand, 20 rounds of 200 gr LRNFP with 6.6 gn of Universal. Real nice pistol load.

You seem to have done very well despite the conditions, with 70 mph winds I might have had to tie myself down. Good looking gun.

Thanks, the real challenge was walking out to the target board and back....holy smokes...but this pistol is 10" from rear sight to front and that helps a lot.

The grip on that looks to be a little bigger than the cattleman do you know if it is RR

I've fired a few rounds that if shot into a 70 mph headwind, the bullet may well not have had the get up and go necessary to get out to the barrel .... the design of the V notch in the hammer does give you a longer sight plane but its not easy for me to use .... nicely done indeed

Yes, this has the SA Army grip, I believe the cattleman or regular Peacemaker style has the smaller Navy grip.

Wind was more or less at my back today, so the bullets were not fighting it as much I guess.

Great shooting, RR. We're definitely a bunch of snowflakes down here. Seventy mile per hour winds in CT would cause a statewide advisory.
