Yes, it really is a game, but the best part of shooting against yourself is that you get to set the rules and push yourself as hard as you want, right up to your very limits and sometimes even beyond. Here's an example of going a little crazy just to see if I could do it. Five shots, here, and it took me well over a half an hour to do it. For each shot, I probably backed of five or six times until everything was just right, including backing off the shot when I missed that very narrow window of time when my shooting eye was at its sharpest. Stopped plenty of times with my eyes closed to rest them. And lest anyone thinks I am gifted with 20/20 vision, I have never had 20/20 vision and have worn glasses all my life. Even with my glasses, I don't have 20/20 vision. To make it even more difficult, this was with my right eye, my weak eye.
Gun was a CZ Ultralux 22 LR with its long 28" barrel. Sights were tangent open sights, not peep sight with a globe or anything that fancy, just an open rear with a blade front, using a six o'clock hold. Target was an 8" bull at a full 100 yards. I really doubt I could do this , again, or even want to do it, again, given how exhausted I was when I was done. By the 4th shot, I was a nervous wreck. By the fifth, I had to to do some meditation to keep my mind on task. Trust me, when I tell you, though, it's 5 shots I will never forget. Oh, yeah, the games we play.
