A Colt is a cowgirl's best friend

Post by North Country Gal » Mon Jan 30, 2017 12:42 pm

Forget diamonds being a girl's best friend. Make mine a Colt chambered in in 45 Colt, any day, or at least one of the many single action Colt clones available for those of us who love that feel and sound of a Colt gun in the hand. And here's a Colt clone that is as close as it gets to being a gun with the actual Colt brand stamped on it. It's a USFA Rodeo, 45 Colt, actually made in the original Colt factory in Hartford, CT with all American parts, all being made in house, right down to the screws, with the one exception of the grips. That's a matte blue finish, by the way, not some dreadful sprayed on or painted on finish. It's a blued finish designed to be used a lot.

Actually managed to get a consecutive serial number set of two of these Rodeos. They were on consignment at a local shop for a very good price. Both had been given a cowboy action shooting job at the factory and both are magnificent. (This one gets shot, but its twin stays in the safe, for now.) It's this very distinctive Colt feel and action that I wanted to add to my single action collection that is overflowing with Rugers. Love my Ruger SAs for the tanks they are, but nothing spells single action like that four click C-O-L-T action you get when cocking a Colt or a Colt clone. :)

And, of course, the Rodeo did not disappoint in the shooting department. Dead on, no sight hold or tweaking needed.

So, maybe I should start a category called Cowgirl Corner or something. Yup, peanut butter and jelly, Ma and apple pie and lever guns and six guns. What could be more American?

I'm in love with the Colt SAAs (and their clones), too. Thanks for the really good photos and your range report -- and for liking them more than diamonds, which -- by the way -- are over valued and are totally out of place at the range or on the hunt.

Agreed. My 1860 Army SA is a hoot to shoot. That smokin' 8" barrel always makes me happy.
Good looking SA NCG.

That's a great looking revolver and target, NCG!
But all guns make a nice target in your hands ;)
Got some range reports coming soon also, good thing we all get a participation trophy

Thanks, folks. Glad to see so many single action types, around here, but, hey, this is a lever gun forum, right? We have more single actions than any other type of gun in the collection, so we will be trying to balance things out a bit more with some new lever guns. That Henry 327will likely be the first.
