DIET is a four letter word.
Re: DIET is a four letter word.
You got me thinking about that German Chocolate Cake. I'll eat to much again tomorrow, then left overs for couple days. Will do my weigh-in Sunday morning, then weigh on Sundays.

Only diet I know anything about is the,
See-food diet. I see food and want it, I eat it.
Nearly 67 and have never been overweight in my entire life.

Re: DIET is a four letter word.
I used to be able to follow the see food diet, but my warranty ran out.
Now I smell really cool food and gain weight.
It happens. I remember when I was a shift leader in the Corps, I was a Staff Sergeant by then, by no means fat, but not the hard charger I had been early in my career. A young Marine, unmarried and living in the barracks who worked out with his roommate every day, went to the beach, ran, played basketball, etc asked me how I could let myself go.
Really? I was well within standards, scored first class on physical fitness tests, and was ten years older than he, with a wife and three young kids. I was stocky, but by no means, fat. "It will come for you when you get married." I told him.
"Oh no, not me." He cried, "Never happen."
I grinned, he was Italian, from New York, a big family. He had an Italian Mom, who ran that family. I knew his wife would be Italian. Six months later, he married smoking hot Gina. She was Mom approved. She cooked italian, and well. No more every day three hour workouts with the guys, all day at the beach, hours spent playing basketball. He gained fifteen pounds in about six months.
The guys never let him hear the end of it. He lost some weight, he never found those abs again.

Re: DIET is a four letter word.
When I was 67 I could say that. After four years in Wisconsin that changed. The state pastime is eating, especially foods high in fat and sugar.
180.8 to start the year. Year end goal is 165.

Re: DIET is a four letter word.
Back in the 80's I worked in material and handling at large co for 2 years. In our receiving and shipping area they had large scale.
We worked swing shifts, it didn't matter which shift it was or what I had eaten or drank my weight never varied more than 5 pounds.
To this day, nohing much has changed. I don't weigh often, but I know the swing can't be much different.

I'm gonna eat today's leftovers until Sunday. Will weigh Sunday morning. I'm not gonna weigh until then, but I'm guessing I'm back up in the 210-212 range. I was down to 200 before Thanksgiving.
Re: DIET is a four letter word.
Did my weigh in this morning. Better that I expected. 208 lbs. I'll see how it goes.

Re: DIET is a four letter word.
Got my Sunday weigh in done. 254.1
Hopefully I'll be in the 253s soon.
Weight loss is sure a lot slower this time around.

We drove down to my daughter's in Southern Oklahoma to drop off my SILs Christmas Present. A new Recliner.
(They don't have a truck so they couldn't take it with them when they were up here for the family get together.)
It's a 6 hour round trip, lot's of time to chat, look at the cows out both sides of the truck, and generally BS about everything.
I mentioned that my weigh in went well and I was slowly losing, creeping slowly down. I hoped to eventually get down to 220, but it might take a year. If I don't make it that far, at least 230 or so. Tina has been very supportive this time around, and not making comments like: "What, you didn't like the Pork Chops,
You only ate one."
She said, "You realize once you lose the weight you want to, you'll have to stay on this calorie counting thing, the rest of your life to KEEP the weight off."
I reminded her that the RN had called it a change of lifestyle, not a temporary fad. I'm good with it, if I can maintain the discipline to do so. It hasn't been nearly as hard as one would think. You get used to doing without all the cool snacks. Every now and then you can have a treat. Instead of a pound bag of M&Ms, you have 16 M&Ms, 70 calories.
Eat them one at a time, and enjoy them, rather than eating handfuls.
Hopefully I'll be in the 253s soon.

I think people eat as entertainment and not for nutrition. Once you change that it’s easy except when you visit someone.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Mon Jan 05, 2026 12:18 amGot my Sunday weigh in done. 254.1

That's what I like about the caloric diet. Unless they are just serving some weird menu, I can eat what they offer, just choose portion sizes that allow me to stay within my range. Re: DIET is a four letter word.
I caught up with this thread after putting a home made coffee cake in the oven. Mary's sister and husband are stopping by to visit our grand daughter on their way from their camp (visible across the bay from ours) to their oceanfront home in VA. They are the last of the out of town family to come by. Their place is winter ready and they stayed there for a couple of weeks around the holidays. (Ours is seasonal only) It's snowing pretty good out and starting to accumulate.
The coffee cake will end my holiday cooking. Back to regular meals.

Re: DIET is a four letter word.
Cool Dave. And if I had stopped by, and was offered cake, rather than saying, "No Thanks, I'm on a diet." I could smile, and say, " I'd love a thin slice to go with my coffee. " I could adjust my count later. Even if I go a few points over once in a while, it still works, as long as I don't fall back into the See Food routine.

Coffee cake, man it has been a minute since I had any. It w a something dad made occasionally when we were growing up. I need to contact my sister and see if she has a recipe. I'm not sure there is even one.daytime dave wrote: ↑Mon Jan 05, 2026 10:58 amI caught up with this thread after putting a home made coffee cake in the oven. I’m back under 180 at 179.6. It didn’t take me long after gaining 5 for the holidays. I see my nutritionist later today at the Wausau VA.

We had an ice storm and the doctor canceled. I saw five cars in the ditch along a one mile stretch. People were still in their cars.
First time under 179 since gaining. 178.4 was the official weight.

Did my weigh in yesterday morning. Same as last Sunday. Wife fixed 2 pecan pies first part of week. That didn't help any. Least I didn't gain any.

Re: DIET is a four letter word.
Sunday weigh in. The calorie counting is still working, slowly but surely. 250.1. Down from 266.9. Every little bit helps. I do miss the good stuff every now and then, but can't handle it if it comes my way. Miss T made very rich double fudge brownies as a special treat. SHE isn't on a diet. Didn't ask if I wanted one, just dropped it in front of me while we watched a late nite movie. 2" x 3" It was still warm out of the oven. I didn't want to offend her so... I ate it. First, it made me a bit nauseated. Too rich when I haven't been eating chocolate.
Then I paid ALL the next day.
