9th and 10th fastest in the practice sessions yesterday for SVG, lacking front grip and thinks he has a 5-10th place car.
Trackhouse found some grip and speed overnight as he put it on pole today with Chastain 3rd and Suarez 10th
He thought his pole lap was slow he made up most of his time in the second half and more technical sections, went for a second quali lap and was much faster until making a mistake.

Interesting he thinks the biggest issue will be brake temperature and over heating as they were seeing issues in yesterdays practice session. It is another thing I hadnt considered with the altitude and thinner air. I think it may well play in SVG's favor, his heal and toe down shifting allows him to use a bit more engine braking.

I use heel and toe on my tractor and picked up .03 seconds going around the barn.

A long green flag run to the finish let SVG show just how dominant he is when it comes to road courses.
More than double the biggest winning margin ever recorded in this generation of car, more than a second per lap faster than the next quickest in the closing stages whilst being told to slow down and take it easy.
In supercars SVG was the master of looking after tires, brakes and the car and having speed at the end of long runs, he got to show that today. Shame the yellow put Gibbs back in the pack, he was the only car that had close to SVG's single lap pace.

Will be interesting between now and the playoffs, with SVG locked into the playoffs they may well start chasing playoff points for stage wins and not even worrying about championship points and finishing position on ovals.

That is what lost NASCAR a lot of us old timers. It’s not football.

^^^^^Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winner.
That's not racing.

And I was an avid fan of the sport for a long time.
You could just throw a number out and I could tell you, who owned it, who drove it and on most even who the crew chief was.
Now I wouldn't cross the street to see it if they pay'd me.

I'm also from the old school, but I still watch it. Although I am still boycotting Nascar. Still not attending any races and will not support Nascar in any way, shape or form. I have an antenna when on TV and when not, I'll watch it on Youtube by independent posters only (I really don't know how they get away with it). I won't even give Nascar the benefit of a click on any of their related sites.

Well the high altitude sure didn't seem to bother SVG yesterday, lol. Have to give him credit to be the best Road Course racer I've even seen. Although I'm not a Road Course fan. Never did like them, even in the old days.

Even though I still watch, anytime I play an old race from years ago, boy is there a difference. Nascar has sure lost that old electricity it used to have.

Lots of hate for SVG's win online, lots upset that he can be so dominant on road courses but no where near the front on other tracks.

Having watched his progress I have no doubt he is in the top dozen drivers in Nascar and I will tell you why.
Its not his week to week results it is the results when they go to a new track, a track no one has any experience at or very limited experience. He has raced 2 points races at new tracks in his career and utterly dominated, sure they were road courses and that is his back ground but he has also raced 2 other tracks in Nascar this season where no driver had any experience.
The All star race was at Norths Wilkesboro, SVG put it on pole for the qualification race and utterly dominated the first half of the race pulling out to over a 4sec lead before a yellow. The other race was the Clash at Bowman Gray, he qualified top 10 ran inside the top 10 all race.
4 races at new tracks where no one has any real advantage from experience at he has been at or near the front in all of them.

Nascar points system is broken, lots of people saying win and your in needs to go because SVG is keeping a more deserving driver out of the playoffs.
McDowell is currently in 16th place on regular points, 1 top 5 2 top 10 and 43 laps led for the season, SVG has 1 top 5 2 top 10 85 laps led and a race win. Who really deserves to be in the playoffs. Do you reward the driver who fishes 10th -20th more often or the driver that has led races twice as often, actually won a race and been at the front more regularly.
Want more evidence Nascar rewards mediocracy look at the top of the regular season points Byron has a 67 point lead over Larson, Larson has 2 more race wins, 2 more top 5s and 1 more top 10. Bell is 80 points behind despite the same number of top 5 finishes 1 more top 10 and 2 additional race wins.
The race points from Mexico show just how little value is placed on a win or finishing in the top 10 in Nascar. SVG left Mexico with 50 points team mate Chastain left with 30 points after finishing 16th. That is correct you can win half the races in the regular season and be significantly behind in points to a driver that has not finished a race in better than 15th place for the entire season.
It is actually even worse than that as 10 of those points were for a stage win, in a 26 race regular season you could win 19 out of 26 races not pick up any stage points DNF and go pointless in the other 7 races and you would be tied on points with a driver who has not had a top 15 finish all season and had 26 races like Chastain did in Mexico.

First race for the truck series at Lime Rock Park, Corey Heim absolutely dominated, won the race, both stage and led 99/100 laps. Really led the entire race just a restart where the 2nd place car crossed the line ahead of him and he was in the lead once they went through the first corner.
Strange race as no strategy at all, race was red flagged at the end of the stages and teams given 3 minutes to make adjustments change tires and restart in the same order.
Debut road course race for Cam Waters, very steady and uneventful race for him, no incidents started 16th finished the 1st stage in 14th, 12th at the end of the 2nd stage and came home in 5th after a late restart saw a few cars ahead of him decide to drive off track.

Stages? It’s a race not a Broadway performance.
