What did you do at your reloading bench today?
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
It’s called duplex loads. I used an empty 22 LR case as a dipper for the smokeless. Soldered a wire handle on it. Ive done the black in lever guns but I used a 44-40. Mike Venturino has some articles on it RR if you can find some of his stuff on line.

My bad not really 10% smokeless. For my 45-70 I use 4.5 grains of 4198 against the primer and then about 60 grains of ffg to fill the case using a drop tube. A milk carton wad and then compress the charge and seat the bullet , one of my own cast from the Lee mould lubed with a 50/50 mix of beeswax and Crisco. I can shoot 30 shots of this and not have to use a blow tube or wipe the barrel.

I tried the 158grn lead swc last night with he henry. 6.5grns of unique. they were on target (plinking,) and subsonic (can on.) I'll load some more and give them a run through the chrono and for accuracy in a couple of days.

Are those plain lead or coated bullets?
Re: What did you do at your reloading bench today?
THey are the old star brand with some wax like substance. I picked them up cheap off vaguns. He's got 10k in 148grn HBWC if you want to shoot that.

A hundred rounds loaded.

I know it's duplex loads but was trying to keep the post as simple as I could. As far as powder dippers, when I started in the late sixties I made a lot of those after checking them on the scale and I still have several hanging in the "room". Now I use the Lee set but still go back to my homemade ones when needed. They are everything from a .22 short case to a sawed of .38 splc and several .32' cases with the soldered wire handles.

Yep, made one myself with the only .380 case I found. Use it for my .45 Colt/Unique.Travlin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 7:57 amI know it's duplex loads but was trying to keep the post as simple as I could. Didn't do anything, but I did receive some new 25-20 brass today.
Not sure if any here shoot much older stuff.
But, I found these at ET Brass, $30 per 50 and are primed.
