Gene, that's very typical of neighborhoods throughout the West. Zoning laws are much less strict in the west than in other parts of the country.
The one home in Fortine has no CCR’s and people can collect as much junk as they want yet they don’t. Granted they are not landscaped and many have farm equipment everywhere and maybe some lumber laying around but no refrigerators or cars that don’t run. Except for one place that has a few dozen cars that haven’t been driven in years. I’m sure there are others but it is not the norm for Fortine.
These are houses in Fortine. They are not expensive yet there is no junk and especially no garbage laying around.

The above three houses are across the street from a three classroom grade school which is above average not just for Montana but for the entire nation.
I’m not going to turn my nose up at poor people just for being poor. In other parts of Montana you can see million dollar homes that have junk and garbage everywhere.

I've lived in those neighborhoods at times. I'm no snob. My complaint is also places that the owners pile up with junk.

Nothing wrong with any of those if that's what you call home.

Only problem with them is; bringing down property values of others in the neighborhood.

I can understand. People may not place value on the same thing, which I can accept. But, I don't want to be part of anyone's mess. Rich or poor, a person can still be messy or not. Money is not the determining factor of being messy. It's how a person views life.

I decorate with junk.

Love the view of the first one. But the others would work also.

The satellite view shows four houses fairly close to each other and then not much else.

Just because I am that kind of guy, I think I could live out my remaining days in that 1925 log cabin. To me, that kind of peaceful quiet, is just my style. Why can't wives appreciate that kind of rustic life style?

They should post pictures of how it looks in the middle of winter.

Yes, I've had the same thought when looking at all the pics.

Hey All,
Everywhere you look you seem to circle back to northwest Montana.
I'd be perfectly happy in a place like this - under contract tho.
The stillwater is great fishing. Good hunting not far. And you could be hiking at over 10000 feet elevation in about an hour.

There was a really nice place just outside a billings that has now sold.

It’s too far from Starbucks! I think it would make a great vacation property.

Part of my problem choosing a new home is I love my current house. It’s a rambler and has a combined kitchen and family room which is where I live most of the time. I very seldom go in the living room although I do like looking into it as I pass it. I bet I’ve only eaten in the formal dining room a dozen times in 33 years.
Last week I had the sheet rock completed on the new doorway I put in almost two years ago and I stained the bare doors to match the rest of the house.

I have just over 2,000 sf of No 1 common white oak floors and they look like a million bucks. No man made floors can complete with the natural wood. They may photograph well but in person you can tell the difference. I also have several Persian carpets. I spent a fortune on floors and have Goodwill quality furniture.

This is going to be hard to give up. Here Little Girl rests in the foyer that leads into the formal dining room.

I’m waiting for the home in Fortine to drop below $500K. I think it’s overpriced now. I’m taking a chance no one will bid on a home 20 miles from Canada. It is in the middle of nowhere yet is near a couple hundred people.
I have PTSD and can’t live in a remote place without going off the deep end. I made a promise to a dozen other Vietnam Veterans I would not withdraw from society and must not break that promise.
I had a difficult time today remembering events and broke down and wept for a couple hours. I regret some of the things I did in Vietnam with every fiber of my being.
I’m okay now.
