Re: Some BP questions
Track of the Wolf got back to me. They have the correct nipple in stock in both hardened and stainless. 1/4-28.

Good deal. If you get a nipple wrench there some have a removable top that has a nipple pic in it. It goes down thru a hole in the handle and screws in. I have one for that reason very handy to clear that tiny hole in the nipple.

Re: Some BP questions
Cleaned out a local shop today. Scored 500 percussion #11 CCI caps.
My track of the wolf order should be here this week. Extra nipples and wrench. Will do lots of shooting over Christmas.

Re: Some BP questions
That Ballistol liquid seems to be pretty good stuff. It sure shined up the inside of the barrel on my Frontier. Some guys on another forum talked about rust with it, but 90%+ of what I read is that people love it for their firearms. Anyhow, so far so good. After a couple of outings I have a little cleaning routine down that works for me.

As much as you shoot and like to shoot you may never see any issues but I would keep an eye on it none the less. I use EzzOx in mine with no issues so far.

Re: Some BP questions
Cleaning guns today. I have not shot the ML since the last time I shot and gave a thorough cleaning but I thought what the heck, I'll clean it again anyway. The ML is the only rifle I have used Ballistol on. Ran a pure Ballistol wet patch down the barrel as the last step before I put the rifle away a couple of weeks ago muzzle end down like suppose to. Keep all the stuff from dripping down into the breech.
Now, I only shoot Triple 7 and do not use water to clean. I use Hoppes. I experimented with Hoppes and cleaning burned Triple 7 off several different pieces of iron and steel and it cleans it right up every time. There are a few guys I have discussed this with and they use it too and have not had any issues with it.
Anyhow, plugged off the nipple, and gave the barrel a good sloshing & plunging with a bore mop and Hoppes. Drained it out, and went to dry patches to clean it out of the barrel. Good so far. Used my little .22 copper brush with a dry patch on it to get into the little patent breech way down there. Pulled it out and guess what? Rust. Just a little streak or two but I know rust when I see it. Cleaned it all out with the brush, little bore mop, patches, and then pulled the nipple off, blew Hoppes through there, blew air threw it, then blew alcohol through it until every nook and cranny was clean. More air until all dry and then lubed the barrel with a G96 patch like all the other guns. Will keep a close eye on it.
I am going to burn some powder on steel again and leave it for a few days, then clean it and see if it rusts anything. But I don't think it's the powder. I think it's the Ballistol. Checked my other guns that have been shot and cleaned countless times and no rust anywhere. They look like new. Several longtime ML shooters on another forum have gone off Ballistol due to rust they say. So I'll stay away from it and see how things progress. Will keep you posted, but if you are using it, check your guns closely. Hopefully it's working fine for you.
