I could be wrong, but time will tell.

Just ordered 2 more jugs of T7 powder as well, just to get ahead of shortages....

Now I am itching for the Skinner ladder sight to show up, I really want to try it out at the range. I am also talking to the guys that run our range to see if they are interested in hosting a BP rendezvous this year, assuming the flu goes away....

Ballistol all I have used on all my guns and haven't seen any rust. Is it just with BP guns?

Nice just a FYI. I have a Kentucky Pistol in 54 caliber. Bought it off the other forum. The trigger on it sucked and had to have it worked over. Maybe you have someone close up there that will look at them.

Just checked the ML again after cleaning on Friday using no Ballistol. No rust, nothing on the patches at all.

Just to be sure, I plugged the nipple and poured some TC#13 black powder & BP substitute cleaner down the bore. This stiff is white liquid. Gets pretty good reviews from some guys but I don't really know it so was not using it much. Anyhow, I let it sit in the bore for 10 minutes or so. Thought if there was T7 fouling that the Hoppes wasn't getting this stuff might. Then plunged the bore with the rod and bore mop for awhile to see if anything loosens up. Poured out the cleaner and it came out as white as it went in. Dry patched the barrel and checked it with high power LED. Shiny metal all the way. Blew air though the nipple, dry patched a bunch more times including the little patent breech, and there was not a speck of anything on the patches. They looked like they could be dried out and reused. G96 patch down the barrel one last time and call it a day.

I am confident that I am getting all T7 powder fouling out. With Hoppes 9. Will check again in a few days and expect to see no rust. Jury is out on the Ballistol, but if after a few days there's no rust with no Ballistol used, I guess I'll have to find some other uses for the 4 little bottles I have.

Well, have to eat my words. Checked the rifle last night and brown crap on the patch. Looked like either rust or fouling still in there. So the Hoppes is not cutting it.

So I cowboyed up today, took a deep breath and used boiling water. Water, alcohol, dried with hair dryer and patches, then lubed with oil. We'll see but I cannot see how anything could be left in there after that. If it works, then water is the way to go.
And maybe have to take back all the bad things I thought about Ballistol. Might even give that another shot as finishing lube.
