Today was the first day I could use a fire in the shop. It produces an amazing amount of heat but also “burns” through the wood supply.

I’m learning how much I can choke it off. Here the breathing vent is open.

This one is almost closed as is the first one after I took the picture.

It’s 39F out and 66F inside after two hours of a roaring fire. I just now choked it down.

That's what's nice about having a stove with a glass window. The choke can be adjusted down until you see some blue in the flame. Without a window ya gotta listen for the whistle. Once you get a good fire going, you choke down until the air flow produces a faint whistle sound. Not too soon or you risk snuffing the fire or having a slow cool burn that produces a lot of creosote. You might find it a little bit of a challenge to get that whistle having two choke knobs to fiddle with.

I’ve found everything you say to be true. I can’t hear a whistle choked down but do hear a roar when it’s not. Surprisingly I adjust it by sound.

I’ve had several fires now and it’s simple and easy to regulate it. I’ve also added a sofa, loveseat and recliner all used and garage grade.

I threw a pizza in the oven in the house and walked it up to the shop to watch The Virginian.

It’s above freezing so I’m heating the shed and working on the end wall panels.

I’ll really be glad when this project is completed and I can do something besides work on it. I’ve barely shot in the last two months and when I do I’m just going through the motions.

The new garage/shop/hangout is working out great.

And so is the Outback. The garage was so full before the Outback wouldn’t fit and the van is too high.
