Like Al said, it's just not a traditional levergun, reminds me of the Henry with to much drop in that rear stock with that same dull finish as the bbs. Which I don't really care for either.

Yes, it does look more like a Henry than a Marlin. If I was in the market for another lever action, I would probably look close at a Marlin. Yet, the prices are more than I want to pay for a new one. I am not looking for collectibles, just something that will go BANG, when I pull the trigger.

Handled the Marlin today at a LGS, $1,249.99. I put it back, brass Henry in both 45-70 and 30-30 with side gates and the higher end engraved walnut were $250 less.

Thats way over priced for a Marlin they can be had for right around 1k. That gun shop is proud of them.

One feature I wasnt aware of is the ability to unload via the loading gate on the new rifle.
Depressing the loading gate releases one round at a time.
Guess it would save having to cycle every round through the action to unload.

Yup Ive seen them but when you look at that and the Smith they are very similar in looks.

The S&W action looks like a Marlin 336. Not that it's a bad thing, but I have always preferred the sleeker and trimmer look of the Marlin 1894 action. Just a personal preference.

The other thing is that I am totally familiar with the Marlin 1894 action. It's one I know and trust, having owned 1894s in 357, 44 mag and 45 Colt. If I have to spend 1K, I'll stick with something I know. The S&W is way too new and unproven for me to spend that kind of money.

I had one of my LGS put me on their wait list for a Ruger/Marlin in 30-30. I got a call after three weeks from them. So, I went down to look at it. It was the 336 Classic and had a price tag of $1,140 on it. Beautiful rich brown wood and perfect wood to metal fit. I was able to get them to throw in a $25 box of ammo for free. Now… I have 4 Henry’s, 1 Rem/Marlin, and 1 Ruger/Marlin.
.22, .357, .45 Long Colt, .44 Magnum, and 2 30-30’s
