June 16th Father's Day Fun

Post by RanchRoper » Sun Jun 16, 2019 4:03 pm

Off to the range on a sunny Sunday. Bit of a breezy crosswind, but not too bad. Took an idea from Bandit and picked up a deck of cards yesterday. Shooting my Henry 1860 rifle and 1871 Colt Richards revolver, both in 45 Colt. My reloads; 200 gr LRNFP, 7.0 gn of Universal.

First up, 100 yds with the rifle, 50 rounds. Open sights as usual, ladder sight up and on bottom notch. No groups to speak of but pretty much all rounds in the 12" circle so not too bad I guess for an old cowboy. Shooting from 1 knee.

Next is just 5 extra rounds I took for the revolver. I wanted to really test myself and have no extra rounds to shoot; 5 only, go big or go home. Playing card at 15 yds, 1 hand. Clipped the edge with 3 but got that pesky cowboy anyway... :D His pony express days are over... :shock:

Don't blame me, it's all Bandit's fault.

Do you have a favorite target from today? Most fun?
They are definitely different shooting...

Rifle at 100 yards?
<or>
Revolver at tiny cards?

Both are fine results displayed by nice photos.

Tiny cards are fun for sure but not sure if I'll shoot them beyond the 25 yd with open sights, they are very small. Getting on paper at 100 yds is something I have been working on so it's nice to make some progress. That 12" target looks like a tiny card at 100 yds. Curious to see what kind of results I'll get with my new single shot when it finally arrives.

Ps...the new stock cover is nice. Shoulders snug. I won't use it all the time but for now I like it.

RR, that 100 yard target with your 1860 .45 will get no quarrel from me. That is some fine shooting !
And that Express rider on the card, well.........TOAST! Geez, I surely like these .45 Colt's.

Thanks, RR. As I'm moving to the next focus of owning only revolvers and a pistol, my avatar of the Henry SGC butt plate is now retired. That was about the coolest photo (from my view) I had taken of any of the Henrys...simple.

Since the Russian 45 Colt top break is the most unique-looking revolver I have, I thought the trigger spur avatar might be good for now. It is also simple, and I like it.
