June 8th, 1860...Frontier Fun

Post by RanchRoper » Sat Jun 08, 2019 10:35 pm

It was a cool day today with a bit of a breeze, but not too bad. Took a box of 50 of my reloads. 200 gr LRNFP, 6.6 gn of Universal. Loaded them in April. Very nice to shoot.

As usual my 1860 Henry 45 Colt rifle. Set up 3 twelve inch targets side by side at 50 yards. Maybe the reloads, but the Henry was dialed in today. Open sights, shooting from 1-knee as I mostly do. I just find it comfortable, and as mentioned before I am sure that position was used lots on the frontier for hunting and such. Hope ya'll enjoy the report!

the good news is, you now have 50 more casings that you can reload .. :D .. the even better news is the bullets sent down range out of them performed extremely well .. ;)

Targets might be a bit hard to see so here they are in full color. Might keep these ones for posterity... :)

Dang RR, that right there is some fine shooting! Next time I go to the desert, I will be trying that kneeling shooting . Normally, in the desert, I'll just sit on my butt and prop the rifle on my left knee and wang away. We shall see. Soon.
Yep, left knee. Left handed shooter. Left eye works better.

Nicely done, RR - that is some phenomenal shooting with iron sights from 50yds - almost looks like NCG 22LR targets with bigger holes...

Thanks guys. I peeled those ones and stuck them on the gun cabinet. A good reminder for me of what I can do when I get all the parts correct: breathing, trigger squeeze, don't overthink it, etc.

Great shooting RR !! Looks like you found a great bullet and load for that ol' Henry!
Around my place only the rain drops are hitting the target and several more days of that yet to come.
