USMC Squad tactics

Post by GunnyGene » Thu May 30, 2019 5:41 pm

Not sure how the mods/admin will treat this, but if it's a problem I won't object to deleting it.

It does have some info regarding rifle application at steep vertical angles tho, so may have some interest for folks hunting in the mountains.

That's almost flashback worthy.
I don't want to read all of that, not AGAIN!
I see they've done some revisions since I was tasked with reading that, but I got the gist, and I'm not much worried about the Geneva convention these days...

Interesting though.

If you really want to jump in the wayback machine, here's the first few pages from my 1963 combat notebook. ;)

I have my stepfathers Guidebook from the Corps from the Korean War era. It's a priceless possession. He passed in late 1981.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

This has got me curious about what records there might be in my dad's things. He was a Marine during WWII. He passed in 2013.

Hmmm. In my Coast Guardsman's Blue Jacket on Page 4 after the list of General Orders it says "When in doubt, follow the Marines."

Sound advice.

As a son, or other close family, you can request a copy of his Service Record. It will include the units he was attached to, awards, and other info. Here's how:

https://www.archives.gov/veterans/milit ... ce-records

For Army and USAF family there might not be any surviving records due to a disastrous fire at the NPRC in St. Louis in July of 1973 that destroyed approx 16-18 million records (approx 75 - 80% of all records were destroyed)
