Slinging some .45 lead today!

Post by fortyshooter » Wed May 22, 2019 7:49 pm

Down at my range today to cut some grass and before I wore my self out I enjoyed shooting the Ruger New Vaquero .45 Colt.
Shots were from 10 and 15 yds. with the first shots being out in right field just after grass cutting.
After settling down and getting in the groove I had an interesting collection of connected holes...looks like a running man!

Was great to get some shooting in before the recent 75 degree low humidity weather turns into an oven for the upcoming weekend!
Hoping to get my son out maybe for some fun over the holiday weekend.

The .45 Colt loads were my 255 gr. Keith style SWC over 8.5 gr. of Unique.

Nice shooting and hard to beat punching those 45 cal holes in paper. Preaching to the choir, here, of course, but it really is addictive. As for the running man, you may very well be starting a trend, you trendsetter, you. Now I'm going to be looking for patterns, too, for even more fun. Love it.

I'm going to do the dogs playing poker thing. I'm overdue to do some wrk with one of the 45 Colt single actions, anyway. Of course, every time someone posts about shooting 45 Colt, I get the urge. Just something about shooting that cartridge that I love.

Did those grips come on that Vaquero Forty? Looks like one of those Jesse models that Uberti makes. Nice shooting to.

I just kept trying to hold in the same area of target and was shooting standing and one hand hold...the left of course.
Do have a tendency to hit slightly right unless really relaxed.
Also I did shoot a cylinder of my .45 Cowboy Specials which a 255 gr. bullet in the .45 ACP sized case which has a head and a lighter
load which could have added to the pattern.
Anyway it was FUN!

The grips were given to me as a Christmas present by my son. The guy who I sold the gun to is a automotive paint specialist sales/tech and he coated them with a clear coat finish. 3 1/2 years later I traded back for the revolver which was my first single action I had bought.
Forgot to mention the grips were a dark walnut and the clear brings out the grain when in the light.
Originally the Ruger came with stag grips when I bought it as a used gun from the LGS.
