Unless its not TOO difficult to seat primers in the S & B .45 brass ditch it all - notoriously tight primer pockets !

Oh, can't do that. I have about 30 boxes of factory S&B I have not shot yet...it's stout brass just have to watch close and double check.

Been reloading for days now....better get shooting soon!

You may have to ream those primer pockets on S&B brass. Pain, but, you'll have the brass. And, once you do that, never again.

It's funny, some seat real slick. Others...not. But they all go. Just have to check 'em. I check every round anyway.

RR, when I used to load for my 7mm Rem Mag, I had some Norma brass that had real tight primer pockets. I had to ream the pockets to get the primers to go in. Rem or Win brass, no issue. You would think all primer pockets would have an industry standard pocket. Guess not.

You can use the pointed end of this tool to bevel a primer pocket and it will help with seating. Its also good for case mouths to take the edge off the mouth of the brass. Helps with bullet seating.

I use one of these for tight/crimped primer pockets.[/img]

decades ago I purchased one for large and another for small primers .... can't remember the last time I had a need to use either of them

Seating a bullet on a rough/sharp mouth edge is not the best way to go IMO.

He should be flaring the case mouths of the .45 he is loading and not need to chamfer them.

The powder drop Lee die at 2nd stage flares the case mouth. Bullets seat fine, as do primers...its just the S&B ones that are a little tight. Just gotta be careful.

somehow we have ended up with three different tools of this type .... have had them since the '60's .... they come in handy deburring the rim after running used brass through a case trimmer ....

OK, somehow my post got garbled and something I didn't write got mixed in.

I posted a picture of a Lyman hand pocket primer reamer. They come in small and large primer variety.

I also posted that for necked rifle cases a case mouth chamfer tool is a must. I lost track of the fact that the current discussion was around a straight walled case. No chamfering needed for straight walled.
