Thanks. Uberti offers two versions of rimfire Colt clones. One is the 10 shot Stallion, which is a 3/4 scale Colt and the other is this Cattleman 12 shot, which is a full size Colt clone. I went with the Cattleman because I wanted to get as close as possible to the feel and heft of my Ranch Hand and other Colts in centerfire chamberings. This Cattleman, then, will make a great Colt shooting practice gun.

Take note of my previous comments on Colt gutter sights. These guns are plenty accurate in and of themselves, but these sights are not what you want if you're trying to chase down the smallest possible groups, especially at a distance. That said, given the right light, they're still very useable.

Here's a long range attempt (30 yards) with the Cattleman 22 LR. Had a good group going until I pulled a couple. Good enough, though, to show me these guns can shoot.

By the way, I regulated these Colts to shoot point of aim, not for a six o'clock hold. A six o'clock is superior for bullseye work, but for field work and plinking with fixed sights like these, I much prefer a dead on hold. More traditional, too.

Lest I forget, did I mention the best part of shooting these Colt style guns?

FUN, FUN, FUN!

Very nice. I've always liked the looks of the Uberti SAs vs Ruger but have always opted for Ruger because of Customer Service and ease of cleaning SS. One day however I may just have to get me one of those Uberti 22s.

A center fire Single Action is on my bucket list, either in 357 or 44. Most likely I'll lean toward the 357 to mate with my Henry Big Boy Carbine. I reload for 357 but not the 44. Once I add either the Uberti or Ruger, I will likely go with bone or stag grips. Just a personal favorite.

Revolvers for me whether DA or SA are just great fun so I actualy have a few in 357 of each kind. My biggest issue are my old arthritic hands. I still take them out once in awhile but it's just a good thing for me that I have the same options in 22.

Just a note on these Colt style SAs as far as chamberings. I also shoot 357s in a Pietta Colt clone. I'm not recoil shy, but full house 357s on a Colt frame are no pussycats to shoot. Not terrible, but not exactly pleasant, either. If you really want to shoot 357s, that's one place where I do think the heavier Ruger SAs have the advantage. The Ruger SAs in 357 are more comfy for me to shoot than the Colt clone 357s.

On the other hand, I find standard 45 Colt (850-875 fps) loads much easier on the hands to shoot in these Colts. Colt SAs and 45 Colt cartridges go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Enjoyed your perspective and very detailed evaluation of your Range Report. I learned something as well, since I didn't know there was a "tuned version" like you have in the Ranch Hand. That's a fine-looking 45 Colt revolver you've acquired.

You said that after shooting the Ranch Hand you found "No leading at all, no extraction issues, unfired rounds would simply drop out of the polished chambers on their own." Could you share what ammo you used, manufacturer and specs, please? Or did you shoot your own reloads? Thanks.

Hate to say it, but these Italian made SAs were clearly superior in fit, finish, action smoothness and, especially, triggers compared to that large American made brand of SA revolver that we all know and own or have owned (my case).

The real test is in the shooting. That's the iffy part. Happy to report, both passed the shooting test with flying colors.

The Ranch Hand is a Taylor tuned version....The action and trigger, though, were clearly superior to the other SAs on display. That's why I selected it.

Sure. I no longer reload, so everything I shoot is factory ammo. Two brands of 45 Colt Cowboy loads in the HSM and the Fiocchi. Standard 45 Colt loads by two local reloading mfgs via Hodag ammo and Wisconsin Cartridge Company. (The Wisconsin Cartridge Company stuff I get at our local guns shows and shoot in a lot of our other guns.) Some standard 45 Colt loads by Remington. All were lead loads, except for some of the Wisconsin cartridge company loads which were JHPs. No heavy loads over 875 fps. Those I reserve for shooting in a Contender. All shot well, which is a big plus when you no longer reload and only shoot factory.

When I say no leading or accuracy issues with the 45 Colt, this is another way of saying no undersized or over-sized throats or chambers with a lot of variation in throat sizes - something that you often get with Ruger's. Been there, done that one with Ruger's. Not putting Ruger's down, here, but I no longer have time messing with mods to get a new gun right. I need it right out of the box. The Uberti SAs have delivered.

Thanks, NCG. I use the HSM and Fiocchi standard Cowboy loads also, plus BHA. Mostly have shot Choice hand-loaded Cowboy action. What's interesting is that you use no heavy loads over 875 fps. When I first got my 1874 Russian, Taylor USA and Uberti both recommended no Cowboy action, or any 45 Colt ammo, should be used if over 875 fps. I've stayed with that.

I think your bottom line is spot-on and well said: "The Uberti SAs have delivered." Thumbs up to that.
