Tough decisions
Okay, so I love the looks of the new side gate. I also love the practicality of the loading system, and the 35 rem cartridge. But, I also love my two big boys. Do I trade one in on a new Henry? Or do I just add a 3rd one to the collection.

Re: Tough decisions
I find it very difficult to part with a firearm that I really like .... for me the choice would be to add a 3rd
Re: Tough decisions
I'd wait a year or so. See if they do the same to other models, or if there are any problems with this.
Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes is rapidly becoming a reality (11/2023). Para Bellum.
Re: Tough decisions
If it is what you want, go for it! But, I suspect you will probably take a loss on a trade. So, I would probably add an additional one. Yet, I think I would prefer steel.

Third one for sure. It's a .35 Rem, at last
.
Re: Tough decisions
Add the third one we need more Henrys to get to that 1000 mark. I bought one will be here this Wednesday.

Re: Tough decisions
I’d wait awhile and see if there are any issues and to see if they offer in other cartridges as well.
It’s not the instant gratification you might be looking for now but it may be the better course in the long run.
Also I’ve never come out ahead by getting rid of something else I like.

Re: Tough decisions
In this area .38-55 ammo very hard to find. Online it's about $1.25rn.
.35 ammo can be found local at a few places, expensive. $1.60rn, online about $1.00
.30-30 ammo readily available most places. $0.75rn, online about $0.45rn.

Re: Tough decisions
I'd avoid trading. Private party sale is one thing, but trading is a haircut you don't want.
If you can wait, I'd wait. One, you can save up and not have to deal with parting with a Henry you like and, two, as noted above, you might avoid some "early production" issues that sometimes arise, no matter the industry or product when I "new" something hits the marketplace.

Re: Tough decisions
I think .35 Rem ammo will continue to be available, since there are quite a few rifles so chambered still hunting out there. It'll never be as affordable as 30-30, though. I'll buy one in a heartbeat if Henry chambers it in a "conventional" blued receiver version. I can't be as enthusiastic about 38-55, still, it'd probably be a fun round to play with - and take up reloading for
.

Re: Tough decisions
Yeah, I hate to let go of a firearm, unless I sell or trade with friends. Guess that's why I had to add the second safe.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Tough decisions
Sounds like the general consensus is too add a 3rd to my collection, I certainly have no problems with that either. I'm itching to get my hands on one of the new ones, but waiting to hear of issues is probably a smarter route. I think I'll hold off for a little while, although I'm itching to get my hands on one!

Re: Tough decisions
A side gate Henry is appealing. First week they came out, my initial thought was I'd like one in .38-55. But, that is a new rifle, dies, all handloading components and a cartridge I know nothing about. I'll wait and see if Henry comes out with a .357 or .45 Colt[
] in blue/walnut round barrel configuration. Then, I'll buy.
Re: Tough decisions
Rumor has it BigAl will soon be a new owner of the 38-55 Side Gate!

Re: Tough decisions
Bet he's gonna really like it. I've become so enamored with the .45 Colt, it seems I may need[want] another.
We shall see.

I don't think it's rumor. Seems he should be getting it any day now.
