SS 223 All Dressed Up

Post by ESquared » Mon Apr 22, 2019 2:25 pm

Thanks to a deal with Markiver and a tip from Tad, my 223 SS is all put together and ready for its close-up!

Mark dealt me his Buckmasters 3-9X40 (BDC) and I used the Henry/Talley integrated rail/ring set-up. Plenty of clearance, so no need to remove the read sight, but the flipside is that getting a good cheek-weld was going to be impossible.

So, based on a Tad's recommendation, I bit on the riser/butt-wrap/shell holder from Rick Lowe Custom Leather. Hit it with about 4 applications of Bick's No. 4 soften the leather and laces up, and it turned out improving the color of it, too. Hated to cover up what is some pretty woodgrain, but need to see through the scope, so you gotta do what you gotta do!

Range trip is next!

I had a single shot 223 on my bucket list for a long time, but my bucket list is a love to have, not need. ;)
We have 223 ammo, but our delivery systems are far from single shots.
That one is booful, as my three girls used to say. :D
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

One thing I did notice on the one SS I've handled is the tall hammer. It blocks the buckhorn sight when it is not cocked.
It doesn't look like you have much room left with that hammer.
Good looking riser/buttwrap/shellholder.

I put the Grove Tec hammer extender on it Day 1, and I can get to it okay. All will be better once I do the "BIgAl Spring Swap," and that's in the works! The trigger pull isn't bad, but the hammer pull is VERY stiff.

I've seen folks inquire about "risers" like that but I never saw anything like this (leather) before. There are a lot of guns that could benefit from something like this.

At 100yds over the hood of my truck on top of my jacket. Once I dialed in my scope group of three within a quarter. That works for me.

I really like Rick Lowes leather items.. I have the same riser on my 45-70 and I love it.

.
Most of the leather products sold by Brass Stacker are by Rick Lowe.
