Happy New Year All!
Armed Forces Day
Armed Forces Day
Everyone,
As today is Armed Forces Day, I’d like to share this to honor all Henry Folk who were/are U.S. service members.
Appreciate very much your service and/or sacrifice to keep America the “home of the brave, and the land of the free.”
President Harry Truman's administration first announced this holiday in 1949 as all branches of the military together now celebrate Armed Forces Day. Prior to the creation of the current holiday, there were separate, single-day holidays for the four branches of the U.S. military.
The first one was held on May 20, 1950. Other countries, including Australia and Russia, celebrate the holiday as well.

Thank you for posting this.
I never thought about my service as a sacrifice. But certainly do for our troops serving now.

Like RetiredSeabee, I have never thought of my time in the service as a sacrifice. I served in the USAF from 1957 - 1965 and I think that it taught me much of what I needed know to get to where I am today. I was happy to serve.

I was headed down the wrong road as a teenager and the Army straightened me out. I hated it at the time but now that its been 48 years my perspective has changed.

Re: Armed Forces Day
For anyone who remembers Rich Little, the guy who did all the impressions: he did this John Wayne war movie bit one time where he's their commander;
"Well men, tomorrow's the big push. It's gonna be rough. It's gonna be brutal. Some of you will make it. Some of you won't be comin' back.
....and I wish like hell I could go with ya, but I got this darn dentist appointment..."

Re: Armed Forces Day
In hindsight I think this post was inappropriate given the topic. I tried to delete it, but can't. Anyhow, no disrespect was intended, and anyone who has served their country gets a "hats off" as I mentioned further above. Well done folks.RanchRoper wrote:For anyone who remembers Rich Little, the guy who did all the impressions: he did this John Wayne war movie bit one time where he's their commander;
