Took a few of my homemade cowboy bullets to the range today....

The distances are on the targets. 6.6 grains of Universal give or take a tenth, 250 gr LRNFP, with Winchester primers. 45 Colt. Historic open sights. The rounds go bang and the lead hits with authority so I guess my reloads work...

My 1871 Colt Richards Conversion revolver, not my best for sure but as usual it was very windy so I have to cut myself a little slack. Shooting 1 handed.

The 1860 shooting from 1-knee position, I was quite happy with this one. I use little binoculars to check between rounds. Ladder sight up, and on bottom setting.

I know our .45 revolvers are of different designs, but they are really great to handle and shoot. In my April 4th Range Report, you called me "Pistolero" after I shot an 8-inch round target off hand, one-handed at 10 yards with no wind. You know, you didn't really have to cut any slack with your pistol shooting in the windy outdoors at 25 yards.

So my question is, since I'm a "Pistolero" level shooter, what are you?!?

After you've loaded 4K+ cases and shot at least 50% of them, we will teach you the ZIN of reloading: How to fondle the bullets (like rubbing a dog's ears) and train them to seek the center of the target of your choosing. Until then...

I am interested to see how the 200 gr bullets perform. I have always shot 250 gr mostly. Some 255 gr Hornady and a few 225 gr American Eagle. There is quite a spread on the min/max powder level for 200 gr, so I am thinking somewhere in the middle would be good. 6.4 to 8.8 for Universal powder.

My gun club range is about 15 min from home. 25/50/100/200 yds

What? You are not satisfied with the 250-255g bullet load's ability to punch paper and particle board? Why would you want to experiment?

The mid-7's should be fine. The 200g bullets may have a different crimp point & COAL than what you are accustom to, so its hard for me to model. Put a chronograph on your wishlist for checking speed v powder load. Also, note that a pistol's cylinder gap will reduce chamber pressures compared to a closed chambered rifle. Therefore, a good safe load in the rifle should be satisfactory in a pistol but not vice versa.

Thought 200gr might be cheaper to target shoot.
250gr is what's in the rifle when I'm in the mountains.
