I should have got 10 when it was free, I understand you didn't have to install it right away. Looks like a OEM version is going to cost me around $100 or $150 for Pro.

pictures, I'm dying to see your progress pictures!

Out in the shop this morning. Cut a 19" strip off the bottom of a 1 /2" cabinet grade sheet of maple ply to move on with the cabinet. Set the fence on the table saw at 14-5/8 and crosscut two shelves. Miss T was out for a bit and she glued up the edges while I marked the outside of the case for screw locations for later.

Each shelf was carefully slid into place and checked for position, then checked again. After that, I checked the shelf for position, then gave Miss T the nod and she shot a brad in each end of the shelf to hold them in place while the glue dries. In about a half hour, I will go back out and screw them into place for added strength. Next comes the back panels.

Then... ... Drawers and drawer fronts.

Made a mistake... Had to back up, disassemble (no disassemble Johnny five,) and move forward again.
Only a 1/16 error, and it's only a project for the safe, noone would know.
I... I would know and it would bug the c.r.a.p out of me.
So... Disassemble.

Not like I am pressed for time.

That is why I keep checking and rechecking as l go. It's not always easy to back up after you glue and clamp and start forward...
... But if you discover an error two or three steps farther in... You sometimes have to scrap the whole thing and start again.
That is a real bummer. Usually these small errors occur when clamp pressure causes something to slip just a bit.

Hope the dis-assembly area was not glued yet, and...yes, the 1/16 if correctable, I would do as well. Would bug me too!

Update...

Nothing to report since my mistake...

Was going right back at it yesterday, but Miss T woke up ill. Most of you know how that goes. Call the doc, show up early to go over the same ol paperwork they have had for a quarter century... We are old... Then, wait... We are patients, right? See the doc... Get the script, go to the drug store. More waiting. Since everything is at least a half hour drive for us... You know where yesterday went. Her meds make her sleepy and unable to drive and she has a meeting an hour away today, and another Saturday.

I'm hoping to get shop time in around chauffeur duties. Oh... The computer is supposed to be ready today but may be Monday.

The new computer is up and running, but am NOT fully up on the operation of Windows Ten and NOT happy not to have my old photo software. The software that comes with W10 sux. Just saying. Anyway, here are the pics so far, see how the actual views match the pictures in your mind.

First, the pics of the side panel with the runners, (rails) under construction.

After all the measurements and the buildup, ran 'er across the tablesaw and ended up with two matched side panels.

Cut out the top and bottom panels, and attached them with brads, then screwed them in place. The bottom, which wouldn't be seen, wasn't a concern. The top, which I would see, I countersunk with the forstner bit, then pluged with oak plugs and cut flush with a chisel. It will be sanded smooth later during finishing.

Of course, good chisel work requires good chisels, this drawer contains the good sharp chisels. I have another drawer with duty chisels I would use on utility jobs like cutting a door mortise or a slot in the field for a fence rail.

You'll note the oak plugs sticking out of the countersunk holes about a half inch, waiting to be trimmed....
Wait, what's that next to the box on the bench? How did that sneak into the pic?

Also note the base and top are 1/2" proud of the sides. This tells you the box is face down on the bench. The back will match up to these panels to prevent racking, as well as the proud shelves when they are installed.

Wife has a can't miss appointment today, and the drugs the doc gave her keep her from driving. So... I can't get back at it til late today.. Or... More likely, tomorrow. I'm chompin at the bit. Can't wait to see if the finished project works out as I hope.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. You do real good work and have a nicely equipped shop to do it in! Well the one thing that didn't sneak into the picture was 'the pink'.

Have you ever tried irfanview? Freeware and very easy to crop and resize photos and save as smaller memory size for internet posting.

Got out into the shop again, finally. No errands to run, nothing to keep me out. So... back to work. I cut the shelves again, and this time they went in as planned originally. I used the original spacer to install the bottom shelf, cutting it in half and using it to insure the shelf was properly spaced from the bottom. NO 1/16 error this time. square and properly aligned.
I took the opportunity while driving around to think about the top shelf. I had originally wanted to use a small box containing storage drawers on that top shelf, but it was going to come up short, so what I decided to do was eliminate one drawer and lower that top shelf to give me the room I need. Besides, that box is sweet. Now a bigger upper cubbie, and eight drawers.

The shelves are done, square, and secure.

Then I cut a 16 inch strip off the 1/2 panel, then cut the proper length for each back panel and installed that. The back panels are installed and secure and the box is square.

This is the safe someone asked about earlier. It's pretty big, and the room it sits in is at the back of the house. After all my time in the last career, it's covered. Door alarm to the room, glass break alarm, and motion. Plus, it's bolted to the floor and won't fit through the fit thru the door without removing the door and the frame. Too much time with the alarm horn screaming.

There are still plenty of steps to do, the finish work on the outside of the cabinet and the drawers to build. But, it's coming along nicely. Backed up and redid the part I messed up, and it gave me a chance to add the extra space for the drawer stack I wasn't going to be able to use, and now I can. Sweet. Things have a way of working out. I hope it does what I want it to do... Maximizes the use of the interior space.

I have a 24 gun safe...almost 600 lbs empty. It sits in my extra room. As far as security goes, not worried. Took 4 very large friends to move it in the house. I built a 2x8 base for it to lift it up some. Not bolted down because in my opinion, it's just WAY too heavy and awkward to be stolen. Please continue to post your progress. Looking great!

Yup, there will be room for a half dozen long guns down one side, but I have another long gun safe in the loading room for long guns where most of those are stored. The loading room stores the ammo, fly rod rack, reel cases, loading bench, powder and supplies... Among other things.
