Another 4th Saturday public range day.
It was busy this first Spring shoot. As I arrived I first saw a Henry Original, case hardened receiver and a large caliber octagon pump action.
And the the assorted high power bolt rifles and MSRs. Father and his father with the grand kids shooting 22s a GF shares his lever rifle with the kids.
Helped a young man sight in his MSR . Was have a hard time he asked me to spot for him at 30 yrds . I could not see anything. Asked to aim at so clay pigeon pieces at the 200yrd berm. Again nothing . Said aim lower , dust plumes 20ft to the right and 15 high. He did good figuring out adjudting his red dot.
A family came to shoot Grandfater's rifles. An Argentine Mauser carbine, a .303 Enfield , a Winchester 70 308, and Ruger Ranch rifle.
The ammo was all military style ball ammo and they sorted out the steel bullets, not many,
It was nice to see them celbrate their Grandfather that way.
Another group came younger folks some that we know. Shooting their pistols and MSRs.
Our 300 yrd gong is popular . Great people, show there friends that have had little exposure to firearms in a safe way.
We had a Range Master and 3 RSOs just at the rifle range there were three more at the trap.
I got to shoot a little this time I got a little applause after hitting the 300 yrad gong 5 times in a row w the 45-70 off hand.
Then asked one of the fellas if he wanted to try.
I just told him how to use the peep sight and were to aim. He hit it 3 times him self.
Oh yeah the lever guns. This fella had his brothers Cowboy Action rifles. An Umberti Henry Origanal and Umberti 1884 Lightning pump action. Both in 45 lc. They both shot nice. A couple light primer strikes but he said they were just out of the safe.
Good day at the Range
A little unplanned upgrade this morning. Site is working ok it seems.

Re: Another public range day
Any range time is a fun time! Is it a private range that just opens to the public once a month?
Now I can be a bit slow but what is a MSR?

Re: Another public range day
MSR is short for modern sporting rifle (evil black gun as a friend jokingly calls them,
)
Sounds like a good time, Ojai, and an interesting mix of guns and shooters. Our range is still very much buried in snow, but hope t get out this week, anyway.

It's a club range leased in the Los Padres National Forest. All weekend shooting events are open to the public everything from long range shooting matches to Black Powder and pellet events. Every 4th Saturday is the public shoot at the trap and 200 yrd range. We have trained RSO club members working as safety personnel.fortyshooter wrote:Any range time is a fun time! Sound like a lot of fun Tim, wish we had a facility like that around here. 300 yard gong hits would put a smile on my face for sure !
