MAW & SeeAll --- Sight in getting closer

Post by PT7 » Sat Mar 23, 2019 7:40 pm

The warmer weather finally let me get to an outdoor range to do some fine tuning of my SeeAll sight on the AW .357 Henry. I'd say my results are not the best targets around. Still I'm okay as I see them as a starting point for improvement. This was my second time shooting MAW, and put out 31 rounds (total-to-date = 71 rounds). Tried using a bench rest, which is not my forte at all. I proved that true again today.

Bench rest. Set an 8" splash target @ 50 yards, shot 6 rounds of deer hunting JHPs, and results were a first for me. Shazam...not a single POI on paper. How encouraging is that!

Off hand.
Dumped the bench rest, and shot only off hand. Sure felt good. I set a 6" splash target (on left) @ 25 yards to figure what I was doing wrong with the sight. Shot 5 rounds, got a 2-1/4" four round group. (To be honest, I cheated -- didn't measure in the low-left POI). Realized I was setting my POA a little high, so this is better as I made that aiming adjustment. This is quite an interesting sight to learn how to use well.

Again @ 25 yards, set the 8" splash target (on right). 9/10 POIs in target, 1 low-right. Better.

Inverted triangle.
Decided since I had my POA somewhat figured out, I put a 10" inverted triangle @ 50 yards. The paper board is 18" X 12". At least there were some bullet holes this time! ;) OK. Shot 20 rounds, 4 in triangle, 13 on paper board, the other three went flying. I flinched one time...don't know why, as there is minimal .357 recoil.

The triangle @ 50 yards says for sure I need to steady that barrel. Maybe a tweak yet on windage and elevation, but they are now closer.

Yup, this was the first time shooting outdoors; hurrah for spring and what a pleasure! When I started, it was cloudy, daylight fair. When I was almost done, it was very cloudy and more dim. The SeeAll worked pretty well in all lighting conditions today.

Hope to "SeeAll" better results the more I get outdoors now. Thanks for looking over my Range Report. :D

Can't comment on that sight, since I've never seen one or even looked through one, but glad to hear you were able to get outdoors and shoot. Good for you.

Thanks. Yes, the outdoor shooting is most enjoyable. WI winter will someday be a distant memory. ;)

Hope this .pdf link connects okay. If interested, here is the sight's instruction manual: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2114/ ... manual.pdf
