New 24" Frontier Octagon - How Accurate

Hey Guys,
I took my new .22 to the range and I have some questions about sighting in. I'm using the standard sights BTW.
What distance is recommended for initial sight in?
What kind of accuracy can I expect?
I shot 150 rounds at 25 yards and everything was in the low left quadrant. I did not have the correct tools with me to make adjustments, but when I got home, I drifted the rear sight to the right, and raised the diamond a tad. I'll be going back to the range soon to fine tune.
The max distance that I can see clearly is about 50 yards LOL.

On the plus side, I the rifle functioned flawlessly!

Love the look of those long barrels!
Sounds like your doing great Winch.
25yrds to start to get your windage and begin to get your range.
Bring something to drift your sights at the range next time.
A 30-30 case and the back end of a screw driver will work in a pinch. Don't ask how I know.
A peep sight would be an excellent additon giving the advantage of that 24 inch barrel.

several variable assumptions to be made behind any kind of answer to that question.

Best case scenario...
o rifle securely mounted to a gun rest which is in turn securely mounted to a shooting bench
o no wind
o 25 yds
o quality ammo
o >>> ought to come close to putting bullets in same hole of the target.

Shooting off-hand/free-hand
o depends on your skill and practice.
o how stable you are (do you shake or wave/drift while aiming?)

I replaced the rear sight with a Williams peep sight the front sight with a Lyman hooded sight for Lever action Silhouette competition. With the right ammo I can get 1 1/2 - 2" groups at 100 yards. For hunting I'd sight it in at 50 yards and experiment to see which ammo gives you the most consistent groups...mine likes CCI Std Vel best/Norma Tac 22/Eley Force ($ CCI you can get at Walmart, $$ Norma at Cabelas and $$$ Eley at specialty stores).

We have a 24" Frontier with a Skinner on the rear and a Lyman 17A Globe on the front - it does 1/2" groups at 25 yds with CCI Standard when using a gun rest on a solid bench.

UPDATE: Went back to the range today with the correct tools and sighted it. At 25 yards I'm getting a 2" group. At 50 yards 3-4". I can consistently hit a metal plate at 100 yards. All using stock sites from a rest. I may look into after market sights at some point but I've already got a scoped .22 bolt so IDK yet.

That sounds like pretty good shooting for iron sights to me!

Sounds like you are getting there, accuracy wise. I find the more you practice the better it gets. I am a fan of a peep sight, that seems to make it easier to tighten groups without using scopes. I have Skinner sights on a couple and a Marbles Tang sight on my GoldenBoy. Both are good, I do like the Marbles a tad more because I can adjust easier on the fly, as far as elevation.
Another thing that I've noticed, and I'm not an expert by any means, but be mindful of your trigger squeeze. Most folks at the range pull the heck out of their triggers. They seem to be more interested in how rapid they can fire versus how accurate they fire. This is catchy to other shooters, on the firing line, unless we concentrate.
