.22 Magnum - more key hole target strikes

Key hole = send back! Not acceptable, there's definitely something wrong with the end of your barrel. Can you see any defects in the rifling or crowning? Is the barrel muzzle machined cleanly and the counter sink symmetrical?

Its been several days since my initial contact with Henry. I got a notice that they were preparing to receive "documentation" but nothing yet this week.

When I bought mine one of the guys in my silhouette club told me to expect about 1200/1500 rounds then I'd need to send it back. The problem seems to be common, and once the barrel is replaced the issue goes away.

A rifle that shoots only one type of one brand of ammo is not what I wanted to buy. This one needs help.

Waiting on NJ to contact me about sending the rifle in.

Guess they just don't make 'em like they usta. 1500rnds (or less?) Totaly unacceptable.

I've put probably 15,000 thru my 9422m since '74 and not a lick of trouble. I even have a prewar (1939) Savage 6A that has probably 50,000 rnds thru it and is still a tack driver.

Good suggestion by Gunny, if you don't mind spending the money on a lot of ammo. Or, send this exact info to Henry and see what their response is. Ultimately, if it's the rifle, they will make it right!

I'm beginning to doubt that Henry is going to make it right. I contacted them twice, did the paper work twice and am now waiting on them to make a decision. Waited a full week, contacted them again - still no answer.

If I don't hear from Henry by Tuesday, 2/26, I'll call them again - they wont like me after that.

Michael, you're experience is very unusual. I don't know what you mean when you say you did the paperwork twice. What paperwork? I hope you call them tomorrow, 2/25. Please keep us posted. Thanks.

Could it be that the barrel twist rate is not suitable for projectiles heavier than 40g?

Example: I owned a Ruger heavy barrel .223 rifle that would shoot 1-1/2" groups at 200 meters with Hornady V-Max 55g ammunition. If I fired Federal 68g Match ammunition, the bullets would go through the target sideways at 25 yards. The barrel twist rate was not fast enough for heavier projectiles.

Yesterday I took my target sight off the rifle and inspected the bore. There are several, long, deep "scratches" running from breach to muzzle. I can't determine the depth of the scratches or the reason they are there. I'm beginning to believe these "scratches" are the cause of my problems.
Now, if I could get Henry to respond to my half dozen messages maybe we can get something done.
Gonna call Anthony if I don't get resolution soon.

"Paperwork" is the required forms you have to fill out requesting to return the rifle to NJ - see the warranty section. After you fill it out you wait to hear from Henry...and wait, and wait, and wait, call, and call, and call - then contact the owner -Anthony...maybe he can help. Right now I have a expensive boat paddle.

Finally heard from Henry. They sent a UPS tag and instructions for returning the rifle.
The woman at the local UPS store didn't want to take it because it was not marked "firearm". Her boss finally said it was not needed and they took the rifle (Although,I may never see it again, it its insured).
Will update you as this progresses.
