Watched a really good James Stewart movie last week I had never seen - 'Broken Arrow' - don't miss if you are a Stewart fan!

Well renamed anyway with his name (originally Orange County Airport) - and now some critics want it changed.

Almost forgot "Lonely are the brave" with Kirk Douglas. A "modern day" western, but, a classic. KD said it was his favorite role. Certainly worth a watch.

First post...I agree with everyone's best but there is one missing. "The Big Country" with Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Carroll Baker, Charlton Heston, Burl Ives, Charles Bickford and Chuck Conners. The Major's last ride up Blanco Canyon into certain death with the music rising.

Agreed when you said "don't miss this movie if a James Stewart fan."

I've been waiting for someone to list "Broken Arrow" in the best category, kind of wondering if it would be brought up. Just watched it tonight...again. I recorded it during this last month as part of TCM's focus on the recent Oscars weekend. It is about my favorite Western, and I thought Stewart as Jeffords, Jeff Chandler as Cochise, and Jay Silverheels as Geronimo were great in this story of war and peace and love. There were other wonderful actors as well in this classic film.

Very glad you "found" it, Mistered, and thanks for including it.

The good, anything with John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. does Blazing Saddles count as a western its pretty good too.

While one of the funniest movies ever I don't
really think it counts as a western.
The 'western' setting for the movie was somewhat satirical and not really intended as the basis for the movie.

I didn't give my worst...Zachariah. It did have Don Johnson with music provided by Doug Kershaw, The James Gang and Country Joe and the Fish. The only marijuana western. So bad but so much fun to watch.
