Russian .45 Colt and Two Triangles

Last time out shooting my Russian top break was on December 18th! Winter weather has kept me mostly close to home. Anyway, no ice on the highways today, so off to the range to enjoy shooting this revolver again.

Shot 35 rounds at two 6" inverted triangles, distance set @ 10 yards, off hand shooting.
Used Choice 200gr & 250gr RNFPs, and Aguila 200 gr. LFNs. All Cowboy Action rounds.

Here are the Triangle Tales.

TRIANGLE TALE ONE. A goal I have every time I go to the range is spot-on placement of my first shot. The arrow shows #1 POI, and I'm content with this one.

TRIANGLE TALE TWO. I shot 15 rounds at this triangle, and ended up having 16 POIs! Note the "non-round" POI at the arrow; looks like some keyholing there, too. I think the fellow in the booth to my right shared my target. He was doing some type of quals, shooting a 9MM pistol, rapid fire 4-round groups, at a moving tactical target. Just got a little feisty with his outliers!

nicely done and well reported .... understood on someone sharing your target .... I saw that more times than I care to remember when I worked with the prison system and took officers out for their yearly qualification ....

Spot on, Fortyshooter. It is a Schofield.
Here are some pictures I posted last year. I have a pair of these top breaks. The one I shot today was the blued model.

Agreed on "one of the worst winters for shooting," NCG. The guns and I have been hibernatin' quite a bit the last months. On top of that, my late Nov thru Dec move into a house kept me away from the ranges, too.

It was definitely a surprise this morning when I looked at my shooting spreadsheet, and saw that it was over 3 months since I last shot the Russian. Same thing last week....3 months wait for the SGC as it sat in the gun cabinet. Spring will be most welcome this year!

Yep....I had one too but sold it and bought an old used Ruger SBH .44 Mag that is an incredible shooter.
I couldn't seem to shoot the Schofield very consistently maybe due to the design of the grip.

At an LGS, I held a Schofield while I was considering getting the Russian. Never held the Russian, but took the chance and got one. Definitely do not regret it.

Yes, it could be the grip design that is part of the challenge to shooting well. The other challenge for me was the weight of the revolver at just over 2.5 lbs. With the 6.5" barrel it's very front heavy. The huge difference on the Russian is the trigger spur along with the hump-backed frame. The middle finger of your shooting hand fits perfectly in the spur, and pulls the entire revolver solidly into the palm. The gun doesn't move or waiver until you move it.....solid and steady. Definitely your palm doesn't slide upward toward the hammer, which it tends to do on the Schofield. Compare the photos of our guns.

I think the Russian is an exceptional revolver. My favorite of the three S/A Uberti revolvers I have.
