Speer .44 Magnum bullet tests today.

Post by fortyshooter » Fri Jan 18, 2019 7:03 pm

Got down to the range today to test a new .44 Mag load using the old Speer 4453 bullet which is a soft point, hollow point jacketed bullet 240 gr.
Bullet was loaded over 10 gr. of Unique powder for low/mid level Magnum power.
Loaded for my S&W Model 69 revolver with 4.2 inch barrel which was the test gun the bullet stopped in the 6th 1 gal. water jug and
speeds were clocked in the 1020 FPS range.
Bullet measured just about .500 expansion with good 6 jug penetration.

This is a good load for less recoil in lighter weight .44 Mag revolvers like the 5 shot Model 69 and would make a great load in a Henry
Carbine rifle too!

Found a bag of 100 of these bullets at our recent gun show for 20 bucks.

Just a tip forty. Leadheads St John Kansas has some 250 keith swc. He makes great cast bullets. I have a 629 four inch that will shoot those on top of each other with that same 10 grain load. Just a tip maybe give some a try I really like them.
