H010 fix

Post by Shawn1974 » Sat Jan 26, 2019 3:25 pm

I have an early H010 that was manufactured in Rice Lake. A lot of people had trouble with the pin in the brass mag tube deforming the outer mag tube under recoil. I had made a small steel bushing to go over the end of the tube to mitigate this, but I think it only showed the deformation. The newer versions have been fitted with a different tube setup to fix the issue. I was thinking of getting hold of Henry and seeing if they could replace my tube with the updated tube. Has anyone here ever had this done to their rifles?

Call Henry CS and explain the problem you're having and what you've done on your own. Any one of their staff will be very helpful. They will absolutely make it right; though you may need to return it to them. It won't take long; they'll give you a shipping label and will turn it around quickly. Good luck!

Thanks, CT_Shooter! Being that I live in NYS, I probably will need an FFL to ship it for me.

I don't know for sure, but I'd be surprised if that were true. Henry CS will know for sure. Give them a call and let us know what they say.

Shawn,

I cannot remember if I've shipped my Henry rifle to them using FedEx or UPS....one of the two. But what Henry provides is the shipping label, and it is set up that the shipping company accepts it without question here in MO. No FFL processing was needed. But again, you need to check with Henry as suggested to follow the regs in NYS.

I echo CT_Shooter's comment....Henry will take care of it. Especially as they know the problem you're dealing with.
Let us know how Henry's CS performs!!

Shawn, many states allow an individual to ship a firearm to and FFL and for an FFL to ship a firearm back. However, none of us can give you guidance on what New York State specifically allows. As PT7 shared Henry CS will provide you with the proper instructions.

I believe Henry will take care of you. It is well known that the gen1 H010 and H009 had mag tube problems that were corrected in the gen 2 versions with a beefier mag tube. I've seen posting in many forums where Henry has either retrofitted or replaced gen1's when they are returned to them.

I had one of the early model H010 rifles made at Rice Lake. Mine had an XS Ghost ring rear sight. I had the mag tube problems you experienced. I sent mine in for the upgrade. Henry replaced the barrel and mag tube assembly. The upgrade had the buck horn rear sight and the mag tube was much stronger. I wish I had taken the XS Ghost ring sight off before I shipped - it was not returned with the rifle.

When I contacted Henry, they sent me a shipping label. They instructed me to put the rifle in a box and wrap with brown paper. Under no circumstances do you make a notification on the package that it contains a firearm.

I had to take the package to a UPS shipping facility but not a UPS Store. I went there first and they refused to ship. My upgraded rifle was returned in one week.

I have never had any problems with Henry customer service. I also received a personal email from Mr. Imperato checking to see if my rifle was satisfactory.

Well I just got the return shipping label. Removed my hammer extension, shell holder, sling, and receiver sight. Got her boxed up and hope to ship her in the next couple days. I did some research on the UPS website. It is legal to ship a long gun from an individual to a licensed manufacturer without the need for an FFL in NYS. I will be printing that out and taking it with me just in case they take issue with it.

Steve51...I am sure I have the original ghost ring rear sight somewhere. I had trouble with it running out of elevation before I had it hitting where I wanted it. Instead of filing the front sight down, I opted for a Williams FP336 peep. If I can find the original sight, is it something you might want? No charge and I will ship it to you.

Had the same problem with a new H010, but it was the lower part of the outer mag that deformed about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom, apparently from the test fire. New inner tube didn’t help, so I took it back and got a different rifle.

personally, I tend to believe you are on to something here .... same issue with our H012 .... sent it back and they replaced the ejector and extractor ....shortly after getting it back, the outer magazine tube failed .... sent it back, they replaced the inner and outer magazine tubes .... no problems since

Well I finally got it boxed up and went to the UPS Customer Center. I had checked on UPS website and it said no FFL required for a firearm owner to ship back to a licensed manufacturer. Well they weren't having it even though I could show them where it says so. So I call Henry Rice Lake to have them email a copy of their FFL. Lo and behold it is expired and they won't ship. I email Henry back and they can't give me a date when a valid FFL is supposed to be there. So I'm stuck waiting.

P.S. Welcome to NYS...the California of the east coast.

Shawn, phone Henry CS tomorrow and explain to a live person what has just happened; all of it, where you are and what you have been told. It is hard to believe that there isn't a single FFL working at HRA. Please keep us posted.

It's crazy, right?! A firearm manufacturer with no FFL? Unbelievable. Probably if I was sending it to Bayonne it would be fine.

Ok, guys. Been busy but here's an update. Finally received a valid FFL on the 7th, and got her shipped out this afternoon. It blows my mind that the Rice Lake facility had no valid FFL for almost a week. So hopefully it's smooth sailing from here on in.

Henry under Anthony has a clear track record of learning and correcting its mistakes .... I'd be willing to bet a cup of coffee that steps have been taken to make sure it doesn't happen again

I have a similar problem with my H010B. The recoil forces the pin on the magazine tube under the pin retainer after shooting 4 rounds of LeveRevolution 45-70. See pic. The gun was assembled in Bayonne, NJ and is on its way back there. I have confidence in Henry to resolve the issue. No issue in shipping in NC. Will let you know how I make out.
