I’m new here and this question probably has been beat to death;
Are there any first hand accounts of .357/.44 mag recoil induced chain firing in the mag tube during shooting or loading? I have a steel .357 carbine and my cousin has a .44 mag steel carbine. I hear 4th hand accounts of this happening, but nobody has seen it happen or have had it happen to them. Thanks, shootest

Havent seen any postings on this forum of this happening. Its possible with the wrong type of bullet used if you reload but most people who do reload are aware of that happening and use a bullet designed for tube feeding like flat points. Welcome to the forum to glad you joined us.

Henry advises against using FMJs because of their hard surface, though there isn't any evidence that they have actually been an issue, yet; any other bullet that isn't pointed is absolutely safe to shoot.

I've been shooting flat and/or round nosed bullets in my .45 Big Boy since Day One. Never had anything go "Kaboom!" that wasn't supposed to.

Thanks all, this other forum I visit has folks saying that just the weight of the cartridge sliding down the mag tube will cause the round to go off!!??? LOL

I think this falls into the "perhaps possible, but extremely unlikely" category. It's not something that I would personally worry about.

It is plausible but I have never seen any articles or hard proof it has actually happened. I play around with various handloads from time to time in my lever guns, mostly Marlins but if I use a pointy bullet like in the 35 rem and sometimes in the 3030 I will have one in the mag tube one in the chamber and have a nice day. So you can shoot them, should you be the one that takes the chance at a one to a million chance the pointy bullets go boom in the mag tube. nobody wants to make win a Darwin Award.

I shoot 45 Colt lead flat nose and round nose flat point in my 1860. No issues but I always load on an angle to avoid rounds slamming into one another. Never a good idea.

Been around lever guns most of my life. I have not heard any first hand accounts of this happening.
Anything is possible though as we have some pretty smart people around these days. They will figure out a way.

Welcome to the Forum. The internet is a crazy place. Not something I'd even heard of until you brought it up. Ammo manufacturers have been designing around that risk in lever guns for a REALLY long time.
