My Lever Action .22 Scopes

Post by Danwin22 » Sat Dec 29, 2018 9:40 pm

I've been adding scopes to my lever .22's.

The Henry Golden Boy has a Nikon 3-9x40 Promaster Rimfire-II.
The Uberti Silverboy has Simmons 4X32.
The Winchester 9422 has a Tasco 4x32 (made in Japan) for now but may get a Nikon someday.
I do have another Nikon 3-9x40 but it's currently on a CZ 452 American.

The 452 with the Nikon would be my choice of those shown. Sorry Henry.

Have some of those very same scopes on our rifles. Nice rigs.

Yup, getting harder and harder to find a rimfire in our safe, now, that doesn't have a scope. Still keeping some specialty rimfires setup, specifically, to shoot with irons, but everything else gets optics. Part of it is my aging eyes that need the help of a scope, but part of it is also my obsession with squeezing every last bit of accuracy out of our rifles.

Like to see a full picture of the 452 CZ. I have a love for bolt action 22's. That 452 has some nice wood color and the grain looks to be filled very well. What year was it made?

I had a detached retina in my right (dominant) eye few years ago and the combination of glasses and a scope are good enough to allow me to use my educated trigger finger. I'm getting used to the look of a scope on a lever action.

Guess I need to take some newer pictures of the CZ as it is now. Here's a shot with higher scope mounts that I've since changed out to get the scope closer to the barrel. The lens cap just fits. My records show the 452 was made in 2012.

The CZ looks as good as I thought it would. I like the wood on it. Pick up a 452 Grand Finale to go with it. Second in from left.

Wow, that’s a beauty; reminds me of a Remington 541-S.

I love beautiful .22’s but lean to field grade weapons that you can easily repair a marred finish.

Nice CZ 452, Ruger Mark, too.

Our two 452s are iron sight rifles for me. Our 455s get the scopes. Here's out 455 American 22 LR with a Nikon Prostaff EFR (one of my favorite scopes).

I know some folks claim that 455s are not the guns that the 452s are, but don't tell it to this rifle. This 455 has been doing this from day one.

Really like the CZ's I have one in a 7.62x39. I like youre 452 set up with the Nikon. When the 455 combo first came out I wanted one with a 22 mag barrel. I dont see them much anymore seems they all come with the 17. Im not a big 17 fan have owned one and just didnt care for it. I like 22 mag better. If I found a combo with the 22 mag I might jump on one.

I hope to get a CZ 455 American one day. CZ is a fantastic quality weapon for accuracy, quality and reliability. Can’t think of any other .22 that offers as much value in their price range. 452 or 455, we’re lucky to have either one.

All of these scopes have been switched around or have different mounts so they all need to be re-zeroed. Hope my group with the CZ looks somewhat close to North Country Girl’s.

I think my Winchester 490 may get a new Nikon too. Like the CZ value, these Nikon scopes are deserving of consideration.

That 490 is an oldie, for sure. Very interesting post 64 Winchester era rifle. Love to hear how it shoots.

I haven’t fired the 490 for many years. The last time my vision was good and shot with the standard sights. A bunch of guys from work were plinking so even though I pretty much hit everything it was mainly soda cans and not precise targets. With a good scope it should do well.

The Winchester 490 was made in their plant in Canada and has “Made in Canada” on the barrel. It has the same stock dimensions as the model 70, 88 and 100 with the idea of being an economical companion piece .22 for practice.

They made 32,000 starting in 1974. Winchester shut down the 490 line to make the model-94 30-30 commerative rifles that were introduced in 1976. It had to take time to tear down one line and set up another so I’m thinking most of the 490’s were made in 1974 but remained in the catalog through 1975.

The Winchester is a full-sized rifle and is all blue steel and walnut. The receiver is grooved for 3/8” scope mounts.

I've owned a few .22 magnum revolvers over the years but no rifles. I usually punch paper or plink these days so I don't need a magnum because the ammo is so pricey for more noise and a little kick. The magnum doesn't seem to kill a tin can any quicker.

If I needed a bit more power for a coyote I'd probably pick up a .223 bolt-action CZ because ammo price for .223 is reasonable. My Winchester model-4 Trapper 30-30 will do fine 'til then for anything here in Florida

I pretty much stay with .22 LR for my rimfires because the ammo is less than 1/3 of the price of .22 Magnum

My shooting is usually paper targets, tin cans or other common plinking targets.

If I can justify a specific use for a .22 Magnum rifle there'll be one in the collection.
