PT7 -- Stallion loose on the Range

We have two shops in our town and both tell me they don't stock Uberti/Cimarron/Taylor because they're hard to get and slow on delivery. Don't know about that, but I do know that SA revolvers and even lever guns are slow sellers, up here. We may be rural, but our gun shops are not much different than big city gun shops in terms of what sells for them. I don't hold it against them, because they have to sell enough guns to stay in business.

I the same way, our younger shooters are no different than younger shooters, elsewhere. They show little interest in the old style guns, even double action revolvers. It's all semi-auto for them, now.

Went to the LGS today to do a bulk buy of .223. While there I asked one of the gun counter associates about doing a special order of the Stallion .38. I got an unusual answer. I was told no, that they only sell whatever gets sent to them. Apparently they don't order for their own inventory? I was too dumbfounded to pursue it. But I did look at an Uberti Hombre .357. I might have bought it on the spot except that the grips where straight grain/plain, no character. Sigh

I emailed my LGS this morning to see if they could help on finding your 1873 Uberti Stallion .38 Special New Model. Their shop is in Liberty, MO, and I've done quite a lot of business, and FFL work, with them. They've always been most helpful to me.

Here is the response I got back from the lady/co-owner (her name is Jean), who is the upfront contact at this Mom & Pop shop:

We would most certainly be willing to speak with him and to see if our importer, Taylors, has the item in stock. Feel free to pass along our phone number - 816 781 9473.

If maybe she asks "who provided their contacted info to you," it's Bob from KCMO. They even provided me the gunsmith contact at Taylors when I needed some instruction on how to dis-assemble my Russian top-break. All around good service from these LGS folk.

Sounds good. It would be really cool if they did have your .38 special in stock. Kind of think they would/should since it's the only Stallion model I've found on their website offered in that caliber.

I'd say the chances they have that Stallion in their LGS stock is very slim. That's why they call direct to Taylors. They've been ordering guns from Taylors for over 20 years for their customers. They also help their customers by working directly with the Taylors gunsmith for any help needed that way.

Their primary business is to supply folks with Cowboy action gear, some firearms, period clothes, and a large inventory to provide materials that support the regional Civil War re-enactments in the KCMO and KCKS areas. Civil War history is a big thing in these two states. They do carry that period's firearms to some extent. But they also order a lot of new replica revolvers and rifles from Cimarron & Uberti for customers. If I found another Uberti I really wanted and couldn't find it in any of my nearby LGS, I'd head for this shop and try to order through them.

Back to your stuff. Can't speak to the prices...have found firearms to be all over the place.

Yup noticed the civil war and black powder focus. I usually haven't comparison shopped for guns. The one's I've bought were one of a kind offerings specific to a LGS. Only when looking on line have I thought check around on pricing.

My LGS will get me anything I can own legally and at a good price. An Uberti Cattleman was one. I’ve had it for about 15 years but he would still order it today.
