My kind of weather, RR. BTW, cool hat you have on...I like it. Late last winter I found a similar one and decided to buy it. Last had one when I was a young person, and they are especially great protection in cold, windy weather conditions. Your neck of the woods sure qualifies for those blustery, wintry days!

I partly enjoy this hat style because of the Russian background connected with these fur hats. This ethnic style is the "shapka-ushanka" (шляпа солдата), which simply means "trooper's hat." Mine of course is faux fur, and I'm sure the Russians most often have the real thing. Anyway, I think that's great headwear on a "nice crisp day for a ride."

Thanks PT7. Mine is sheepskin, and very warm. Great day today as long as you dress for it. I just pulled all the horse's shoes this week so their feet need to toughen up a bit, just have to watch nobody gets sore. But so far so good, Badger was sound when we got home. Gotta watch the rocks though. I used to keep them sharp shod for winter but it's actually better for their feet if they can go without shoes for a while.

I got this one a couple of years ago, sheepskin, very warm and well made. The chin strap is new, it doesn't really need it and looks like it's use is optional. Wish I had it back when I spent more time outdoors, I had a decent hat with ear flaps but not nearly as warm as this one.

Christmas Day in cow country requires a little saddle time. Badger and I take a little break and wait for the noon train...he looks excited, maybe the mail pouch has something in it for him....

RR, you've made Badger's ears famous through the Cow Country journeys. This paired photo looks great, especially with the smile peaking through the handlebar!

Yup, looks like a gorgeous day there. We had almost the same here in KCMO....sunny with a blue sky, but the big difference was that the temps reached almost 53* on our Christmas Day!

Did anything special show up in the train's mail pouch?!?

Nothing on the train but Santa did bring them a big bag of apple crunch snacks. They all had a couple in their mineral supplements tonight for Christmas supper.
