What are you Shooting you're Lever Action 22's on ?

I have one of these to deal with moles...

I've tried steel traps, flooding tunnels with water, smoke bombs, flares, burning sulfer, carbon monoxide, shooting a .22 and .410 or jabbing a shovel into wiggly mounds. I sometimes have luck having the John Deere idle over the ground where they are active. They are pretty fussy about a spec of dirt being out of place in their tunnels and the ground vibrating John Deere can set them into a cleaning house frenzy.

I shoot steel out in the hills to the east of where I live. It's BLM land that is open to the public.

I am a certified, psycho pine cone killer! They fall routinely to ANY caliber I shoot ! The upside? they are free, are everywhere in the woods, can be moved and set up and they don't run off!

Got the first fall nutria today. About 20-25yds out in the creek below the back of the house. Normally they don't get that close. They are usually 60-65 yds out when I take them. No squirming and bawling like I would get with a .22. One .30-30 shot and done.

Nutria have invaded the California Central Valley. 100 were trapped or otherwise in a recent program checking the population.

A big river rat. Very destructive to creek banks, irrigation ditches, vegetation farm crops, etc. Somebody, many decades ago, thought it was a good idea to import them for eating and their fur. Some escaped and the rest purposely let go after finding there was no market for them. Here nutria, eastern gray squirrel and eastern fox squirrel are the area's most non-native species. Nutria get the .30-30 and the non-native squirrels get the .410.

Yes they are. They haven't yet made it 'over the hill' to Eastern Oregon - and probably never will - along with it being the wrong environment for them.
A couple years ago I was watching an interesting show on one of the educational channels and it was about the history of the fur biz in America - and the Nutria was highlighted at one point with some interesting historical videos about it in Oregon.

For the time being their west coast range is West of the Cascade mountains of Oregon, Washington and southern tip of BC. There are pockets of them in Eastern Washington, the pan handle of Idaho, along the Snake River Boise/TwinFalls stretch and Lake Tahoe area. So I think there could be a possibility of them showing up in Eastern Oregon someday.
