Howdy from the Dismal Swamp

Post by mrguvna » Tue Oct 09, 2018 3:25 pm

I have always had a need/desire for a henry Big Boy Brass in 44 mag. I was finally pushed over the edge and bought one last Friday off of GB. I got an exceptional deal on it and cannot wait to get the shiny new toy in my hands. I already reload for my Ruger SBH Bisley so got everything I need to keep this Big Boy fed! I look forward to participating in this forum. I will post pics when I get it in my hands, it is presently in bound

didn't expect it to be an actual place. from the pretty fall colors there it doesn't look so dismal.

Welcome from a former swamp dweller.
I grew up in Chesapeake just outside of the modern limit of the swamp. Development in the area shrunk the territory once covered by it. It has a pretty amazing history. I remember having black bears in my backyard when I was six.
Enjoy that beautiful new Henry.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

Yup bears everywhere, I also have a farm in eastern nc just below the dismal and that is where I hunt and shoot. More bear than deer. I love my levers and favorite caliber is my 4570s. Marlin and ruger.

Welcome to the forum! I read some of the info on your link, and it said there are only TWO natural lakes in the whole state of Virginia? Is that right? I guess the others are man made/dam reservoirs?

Congrats on the Brass Henry! Look forward to hearing how you like it and how it shoots for you!

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I can't get enough of seeing brass octagon Henry rifles. They are so beautiful! You got a fine piece of character in your stock too. Suggest you might want to get a coat of Renaissance Wax on the brass and wood. https://www.amazon.com/Renaissance-XTL- ... ssance+wax
