Re: 22 is my favorite caliber
Just got back from a morning of squirrel hunting with the CZ452. Got two grays this morning. So today my favorite .22 would be the CZ. That may change tomorrow!

Re: 22 is my favorite caliber
I find that my .22 cal is great for getting the rodents out of the barn, we have a lot of 13 lineback squirrels that dig holes everywhere and get into the feed etc. So I go hunting in the barn. I have been using my Ruger mark 111 with a redot that seems to work very well. Yes one of favorite calibers.

The 22 rf is the Swiss Army knife of cartridges. My scoped Remington 581, that was my first real gun at 14 yo and my Henry H001 are my favorites.
Re: 22 is my favorite caliber
Very cool description of the .22 cartridge, Shawlerbrook.
I like both that caliber shooting out of my SGC, and love my SAKs, too!

Re: 22 is my favorite caliber
A careful shopper can still turn up a classic .22 for 100 bucks. And they almost all shoot accurately with the right ammo.
Doesn't seem like too may years ago, you could do that for 40 bucks. But still, anything that goes bang is worth 100 bucks, isn't it? :- )

What kind of 25-20 do you have?
Blackdog wrote:I really like my .22s, but I have a 25-20 that gets a lot of my attention. It shoots like a .22 magnum, has about the same recoil. Is reloadable and best of all it fits me well.

I have a "new" Marlin 1894 with a 23" barrel and a short magazine tube. It fits me well, I added a Cabelas cheek piece, Williams peep sight and reload with LilGun.
I used if for a couple of years in Lever Action Silhouette, but reloading components are getting hard to find...Speer stop making the 75gr FN bullet, the only jackets bullet left is the Hornady 60gr. So, I'm using a Henry .22 Magnum for silhouette now.
This fall I'll add a scope and begin testing the 60gr bullets - and I may use it again, but I really like the .22 Magnum and the 45gr Critical Defense round.

Re: 22 is my favorite caliber
Nice set-up. I would like to get a lever action in 25-20 or 32-20. I watch the Gunbroker site for them occasionally, but I am leery of buying such old rifles without being able to handle them.

There is a similar style 32-20 on Marlin Owners. These little rifles are expensive - I think I paid $1200. The 32-20 is, I think, $900.
Between the two I'd go for .32-20 over .25-20; Brass and bullets are much easier to find. And there almost difference in accuracy.

Another caliber I wish Henry would chamber in a lever gun 32-20 I would buy one in a heart beat.

Re: 22 is my favorite caliber
OK, that didn't take much research ..
.. from Wikipedia : "The .32-20 Winchester, also known as .32 WCF (Winchester center fire), was the first small-game lever-action cartridge that Winchester produced." .... it has a rich, interesting history .... from looking at the ballistics, if I was in the market for a 32, I think I'd go with a Henry 327 .... thanks again for introducing me to the 32-20

Sure hard to beat in the fun department,Henry88 wrote:Yes I stole dddrees' subject, cause I had intended to do the same thread, but about rifles. Rimfire rifles.
So I shamelessly stole his title because I feel the EXACT same way about rifles. I may have some that mean more to me, for whatever reason, but when it just comes down to shooting, and especially having fun, it's impossible to beat the .22.
I'm not evens sure it matters be it a lever, bolt, or auto. They all rock IMHO
did a little back yard plinking this afternoon.
Like you said, lever, bolt and semi.
Nothing to report other than fun was had.
Shot some left handed, did well with the scoped Marlin 25N. Not as well on the open sights, shooting is around 40 yds.
All and all not bad

Re: 22 is my favorite caliber
Rimfire is my favorite whether it be 22 or 17. And I'm even counting .22WMR. I include them all because in some cases parts for them are interchangeable. Rimfire has been my favorite for about ten years but I've shot more centerfire in my life.

A favorite caliber for sure. I have had this rifle “Winchester Model 62A” since 1955 when I was in Alaska. I don’ know how many rounds that I have shot , but a lot. Still one of the favorites.

Re: 22 is my favorite caliber
I have 22 rifles that are bolt, lever and semi-auto as well as handguns that are revolvers and semi-autos. My favorite rifle is one that is ignored and rare. I have a Mossberg Blaze 47 that looks like an AK47 and it will shoot 25 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger. It is a lot of fun because it has a polymer receiver that makes the entire gun weight just over 4 pounds, is accurate, easy to aim and shoot the 25 round mag can be switched in seconds. Since Mossberg got started with 22 caliber rifles and the Remington Nylon 66 "plastic" gun was reliable for many decades, I decided to give it a try. I would buy it again.
