I’m going to get in BIG trouble...

Post by Redthies » Sat Sep 08, 2018 7:44 pm

So I was just driving home from work, minding my own business when all of a sudden I found myself talking to my friend at his gun shop. Next thing I knew, a Big Boy Steel Carbine in .357 was on its way to me. Dammit. Now the Mrs is going to neuter me for sure!

I think I may put my Ruger .44 Carbine up for sale as I haven’t enjoyed shooting it quite as much as I thought I would. I also won’t have any room in the safe for another long gun.

congrats on the 357 .... wish you were on this side of the border, in the interest of helping a fellow preserve his masculinity, I'd take that 44 off of your hands

Not to worry. She'll very likely hang on to her favorite long gun, but your safe will need to make room for that .357. Congratulations. ;)

Best gun ever!

Congrats. .357s are fun.

If you're serious, I'd be happy to give the .44 a new home...I'm in Ontario, and can arrange the shipping.

Congrats, I think.

Wow, sure glad I cleared my latest one through the wife first that don’t sound good. Not good at all. Good luck. LOL

Yes, that is a funny thing. My wife seems to complain about guns, then she buys me stuff for hunting. Go figure. In any case, congratulations!

Congrats. .357BBS is very versatile and you're sure to be happy (once you get the spouse situation cleaned up). Please keep us posted on your first impressions, range trips, etc. And pics, we need pics!

It’s still a week or two away, and I have a high desert ghost town trip planed for the later half of the month, so I won’t likely be able to shoot it until early October.

To those of you with carbines, I’m going to order a peep for it. Would you do the Express that mounts on the receiver or the dovetail that is barrel mounted? I think it would be a very short sight picture using the dovetail, but $48 vs $90 + $35 for an Express and filler.

.
dovetail mount is HenryUSA's preference. Skinner quotes Anthony Imperato:
...recommend on a daily basis your peep sight that fits in the dovetail slot."

I’ve read that Uncle Anthony recommends the dovetail. On a rifle it’s +/- 16” between the sights. With the carbine it’ll be closer to 12”. I really like the sight set up on my SGC and the Express would be virtually the same.

Have any of you used the dovetail version on a carbine?

Yeah but when they start threatening to remove body parts or alter things and more specifically certain things then it can get real bad real soon. A finger here or a finger there then maybe not so bad, but we're not talking just fingers here. LOL

Congrats on the BBSC....it’s one of my favorite rifles and is deer capable also. Had some guests from the ‘city’ over this weekend and they really enjoyed shooting the .357. I have a red dot on mine which works out very well for my old eyes.

I got confirmation today that my order is on the way. I won’t see it for a few weeks with my vacation plans, but should have it in time for a whitetail and turkey trip October 12th.
