Three Stooges Moment in time

Post by BrokenolMarine » Sat Sep 01, 2018 5:02 pm

I was coming back in from the woodshop. A long walk... geez, gotta be at least, I don't know, twenty yards.
What? Where was I? Oh, yeah, walking (rolling back in) from the shop with my walker, when a Three Stooges moment occurred. ;)

I am coming up the ramp to the side porch when I hear the sound of an angry boat motor with the prop out of the water right beside my head. I suddenly realize it's a horse fly the size of a hockey puck. (Okay, almost)
Hey, it HAD nav lights! 8-) It buzzed my head on a straffing run, and I smacked (at) it. I put some effort into that strike, missed that small dive bomber but connected. With my left ear. :x Not good... it was a solid strike and a couple things happened.

It actually hurt worse than the bite of that horse fly might of... seriously. I'm allergic to those bites and they swell like a golf ball.

Worse yet, I also hit my hearing aide receiver. That thing squealed at max volume. Felt like an ice pick stuck in my ear. Idjit. Good thing Miss T wasn't around with her smart phone, I'd be on youtube already.

When you are this coordinated, you may as well go ahead and change your name....

... to Grace. :P

Hey Moe, Hey Larry, I am sorry that you had such trouble. Maybe you should carry one of the 410 revolvers to deal with the insect aircraft that are intent on causing you harm.

Maybe I should remember the dang hearing aides...
I think that high pitched squeal hurt more than the Gibbs smack in the head.

Sounds like you went from "could have been bad" to worse! Glad you made it without getting a golf-ball welt from the horsefly!

Speaking of woodworking, how hard would it be to make a wooden rifle "cradle" for lack of a better word? It just jumped into my head when you mentioned your woodshop, and I remember seeing that beautiful humidor you were working on.

Don't know exactly what I mean by cradle. Could be for display, could be for cleaning (but seems like that would need some sort of clamp/vise, so I don't know about that). Seems like it would be a pretty basic DIY "kit" if one had some basic dimensions.

Not hard really, but for the cost of buying the hardware you could almost pay for a quality stock factory made one. Mine handles both long guns and handguns, and I think I ordered it thru Brownell's during one of their promotions.

This cradle adjusts to hold all types of firearm types, heights, padded, and is very secure.

As for creating something just for display, you can do that fairly easily with a nicely grained flat board for the base and two vertical ones with slots cut in the top for the rifle to sit in, or a couple pegs protruding for it to rest on.

Or... you can get a tad more fancy as I did a while back... just to see if you can, because you are retired, and your wife told you to go find "something, anything, outside," to do.
