I've had a few bird strikes this summer, and thankfully none that were fatal until today. It hit with an amazingly loud smack. My cat rushed to the window to see what happened. So did I. I saw it lying on the ground, obviously dead, and retrieved it. I plucked it, cleaned it, and marinated it in a salt water brine for a couple of hours, then rinsed it, dried it with paper towels and placed it in the fridge for a couple of hours to thoroughly dry it. Then I dusted it with a heavy coating of cajun spices and gave it another hour to soak it all in, then roasted it in a convection oven at 375 for 20 minutes. Unbelievable! These wonderful birds are the best tasting fowl I've ever eaten.
I have many Mourning Doves in my yard at any given time and they are always safe. Hunting them in CT is prohibited. But, when one meets its Maker by speeding into my picture window, I simply thank Him for providing a little manna from heaven and totally enjoy it.
