as noted in another thread, my Grandfather hunted bear and deer with his 1941 Model 94 30-30 .... his bullet of choice was Winchester's 150 grain silvertip bullet .... I still have 10 that I loaded for him back in the '60's .... the bad news is, Winchester no longer produces that bullet .... the good news is they have joined with Nosler to jointly producing what they call their Combined Technologies (CT) Ballistic Silvertips .... I use two bullets in that line, their 150 gr 30-30 and 300 gr 45-70 .... brief YouTube Video ===> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7IV1JVxpx8 .... shown below in the first picture is the old Winchester Silvertip on the left, the new CT Ballistic Silvertip, and one of the new 150 gr 30-30 CT bullets on the right .... the next two pictures show the CT 45-70 and 30-30 Ballistic Silvertips ... I know the 45-70 shoots extremely well, I'll be extremely well pleased if the 30-30 performs equally as good

just finished running off 50 rounds of 30-30 ammo using Combined Technology's 150 gr Ballistic Silvertips .... my first impression is they seem smaller than the other 30-30 ammo we've used in the past .... that could be caused by usual blunt design of regular 30-30 bullets as compared to the semi Spitzer style Combined Technology bullets ....

I don’t know about the 30-30 but the combined technology from Nosler in 150 gr is all I use in my Tikka 7mag. Oal and bullet weight is probably better than any bullet I’ve tried in the Magnum.

simply as info for anyone who may be interested : earlier today I received an email from Shooter's Pro Shop (SPS) that they finally have 150 gr Combined Technologies (CT) Ballistic Silvertip reloading bullets in stock ... as noted above, these bullets have been developed as a joint project of Nosler and Winchester ===> http://www.shootersproshop.com/nosler-p ... 433f522abf .... as also noted, they have proven to be extremely accurate, with the flattest trajectory of any 30-30 bullets we have ever loaded .... SPS has an agreement with Nosler to market their blemished and production overruns .... these overruns 1st line bullets .... as can be seen in the link above, the price has been reduced to $20.95 for a box of 50 .... SPS has a flat rate shipping charge of $13 so the more you order, the cheaper the shipping is on each item .... this is the first time I've seen them have these bullets in stock and immediately ordered 5 boxes in a few weeks I hope the will have some left and I will be able to order more ....

I also use the 300g. BT in my scoped 1895ss and at 54yds.(bench/bags), I get 1 ragged hole (3 shot groups) at 1800 fps. I don't think they'll do as much meat damage as the Hornady or Sierra HPs at this velocity'. The HPs' were giving me about the same grouping/accuracy.

JEBar, I took your advice and ordered a box. For $21 you can't get burned that bad, esp. first time buyers have free shipping ! I really don't need any more 30/30 bullets, I have a ton 150g. already. Maybe I'll have a yard sale.

JEBar, thank you for the info. The Hornady manual (8th. edition) states I can use 37g. of W748. I get very good groups with that loading using 150g. Sierra FP. (7/16") at 54yds. No sign of over pressure or bulged primers. I keep you posted.

This thread got me to wondering....

So I went to SPS and logged-in.

Made my first order with them in October of 2013...almost 5 years ago. I have spent $6,400 on bullets just on that site since then!

I also buy more than a few bullets from Midway...and every now and then from Powder Valley, Reloader Valley and I even have 200 300gr .411 Hornady FP on the way to the house from MidSouth (they were just over $21/50...a smoking deal).

A man can never have too much red wine, too many books or too much ammunition (Kipling).

Rudyard was a sharp old fellow .... well at least about ammunition .... not so much on the other stuff .. .. I'm considerably north of the $400 but not anywhere near the $6,400 category .. .. I haven't counted but do know I have purchased several thousand Nosler CT 300 gr 45-70 and several thousand Nosler 44 caliber 240 gr JHP bullets from them .... that doesn't include a host of 30 caliber Nosler bullets in a wide range of weight and designs .... most recently I've started building my stock of their Nosler CT 30 caliber 150 gr ballistic silvertips .... yep, about ammo Rudyard was right

Might have to stop by SPS and pick up a box of these for the heck of it and see how they shoot. A little spendy for paper & pine cones but they'll probably make hamburger out of 'jacks this winter! Haven't been in there in a while anyway so it will give me a good reason to do so.

JABar, I finally got a chance to shoot those 30/30 CT bullets, with 35g W748 powder. I shot 3 rounds of that loading (Henry 30/30) at 54yds. off bench/bags with 3 different primers. The results were : Rem. Primers- 1", Win. primers- 7/8" and CCI primers- 5/16". Who would of thunk !!

I remember years ago being told that hitting a basketball consistently at 100 yards with a Model 94 30-30 was about as good as it could get .... I never subscribed to that theory .... really surprised at the difference between primers .... we use CCI but if I couldn't find them, either of the others would be just fine ... good to hear that the Combined Technologies bullets work well for your while at the same time I'm surprised in the least .... thanks for reporting back and confirming their performance

I've been using the Winchester Factory 150 Gr Silvertip in my 30-30 for scope zeroing and will take it to the field next weekend.

Luckily, found that the new version of the CT bullet is still available (and On Sale!) at Shooter's Proshop, so I ordered 3 boxes, "just to have," when I get around to reloading that round (probably in January).

Re-mining these old threads is proving useful, if expensive! Thanks, guys!
