Had a friend who grew up in Eastern Montana who would say that Summer sometimes didn't start there until August and was over by Sept.

Supposed to be high 90's here for at least the next 10 days. I try to get all my sprinklers going and moved by 10 AM. Wish I'd put in underground sprinklers years ago, I have 10 sprinklers on hoses I have to move daily, takes about 4 days to cover everything now because we run out of water in the evening, so far the creek is back up in the morning.

Had a little more rain today but can always use more. Tomorrow I may take a ride in the backcountry. Temps supposed to be around 80F. Got a little practice in with the rifle today, ready to stuff it in the scabbard & hit the trail.

Got a free light show for several hours around midnight last night. Heavy rain, rolling thunder, sky lit up like a 70s rock concert. Impressive. Mother showing her power.

As I've been watching weather reports re. current MO drought conditions, I found a .gov web site showing the "U.S. Drought Monitor -- Missouri." Below are MO state-wide conditions as of this week (7/24/18), and it's not good at all. My county is one that is in the "Extreme Drought" level, and latest reports are that the conditions may escalate and move my county into the "Exceptional Drought" level. The weekend weather report predicts minimal rain chances again, and temps will ramp back up into the mid-90s toward the end of coming week. Yikes!!

Looking around outside at the lawns, trees, and bushes, and seeing large cracks in the ground, I believe these numbers. I was in another MO drought in 2012, and in a KS drought in 1987-88. Not fun stuff, but part of what we're given. Probably preferred over severe flooding...

Drought Intensities
None: No Drought = 14.52%
D0: Abnormally Dry = 85.48%
D1: Moderate Drought = 50.29%
D2: Severe Drought = 32.04%
D3: Extreme Drought = 15.56% <--- Here I am in Clay County
D4: Exceptional Drought = 0%

Wish I weren't a "numbers-person" as I look at such a report....

Been watching the weather radar this morning as I went through my morning ritual of a mug of hot black followed by a chew of Copenhagen. Weatherman forecasted the best chance for rain in some time but it appears to once again be sliding a hundred miles South down in the Arkansas River Valley. We've been in a hot dry dome up here in the Ozarks all Spring and Summer. Been a long Spell since Early May. The heat and humidity have been double tough. Lot of days 105 -110 degree heat indexes. You would think with all that humidity that we could spawn some rain. Pasture conditions are terrible and hay crop running half or less of normal. We lost several head of cattle at the stockyards couple weeks back due to the heat. Temps are moderating last few days making it bit more bearable but still no moisture. We've got the knot tied in the rope and are holding on. Waiting for this pattern to break. Grandpa always said " It will rain one of these days ".

Mornin PT7. Just seen your post after sending mine. Sounds like we're in the same boat. Lot of our water sources for our stock such as springs , creeks , ponds are going dry if not already done so. Hauling water to stock gets to be time consuming and pretty labor intensive. Lot of folks down here are selling out their cow herds. Will keep praying for our situations to improve.

Glad you are getting rain in your part of the country. Also would like to say I admire the quote at the bottom of your posts , sir. Says a lot. Need more of that type of character for sure.

Yes sir. Always like to fall back on the words of wisdom. A man has to keep his chin up. If it was all smooth and easy there wouldn't be much. Character building I reckon.

Looking at the Sunrise and having a mug of stout , hot black. It's 64 this morning and we have the best chance of rain we've seen in a long time for later today. Forecast high is only 78. Sure will be nice after a long string of mid 90's to 100.

Good Day, Everyone. And it is starting out "good" here this morning.

Enjoying my first Henry mug filled with my double mocha cappuccino. But much more so, enjoying the RAIN!!! Thunder wakened me at 4:30am, and now at 7am there is a light rain still happening. So far my rain gauge has 8/10" of the wet stuff in it....so grateful for this blessing of much-needed water. It's a very small, but welcomed break from so many dry, blistering hot days here.

Looking to how long it lasts yet today...
