The other day I bought some hi-vis targets and a small pair of binoculars at Cabelas.
Today I had a plan to shoot my 1860 Henry at 100 yds off hand standing. At the range I shoot west to east. The wind today was 25 mph gusts from the southeast. Needless to say that intermittent wind was a challenge.
80F, and lots of sunshine today.

Only took 20 rounds of Western Munitions 250 gr LFN. Besides keeping the cost down, having only a few rounds makes me get my game face on. Not my best target today but I am starting to figure out the ladder sight. The calibrations on it are approximate to say the least. It is trial and error and lots of lead.
13 in the black, 2 clipped the paper top and 5 in the wood above the paper. Not the wood in the photo, that's my deck.

Cleaned the rifle this morning so this target is all me. Ladder sight up with slider at bottom. The black is a dot at 100 yds so you need to have the whole black area sitting right in the sight notch to get in the black. A bullseye would be luck but at that distance being in the black is meat on the table I think. Little binocs work good. I can actually adjust my shooting.

Fine work, as always. That's a great idea on the binoculars. Binos allow you to, in effect, act as your own spotter. I use binoculars, regularly, for all my 50 yard and 100 yard offhand work to give me feedback on how I need to adjust my sights without having to change my position and sit down between shots to use a spotting scope. They're doable if you use splash targets and reshooting those large 45 cal holes.

Little $20 binoculars with a nylon belt pouch. Pretty handy. Normally I would take a few shots then do the long walk out and back. I am lucky I think that my rifle seems to like all the different 45 Colt ammo I have shot. Always feeds & ejects well. I have a dozen boxes coming this week from a guy who supplies some police force ammo. It's new brass & lead, 250 gr LFN same as I always shoot. Price was right at 66 cents a round.

Very good for standing at 100 yards! I got out today for a while - mostly to test some loads and my Henry did really well with 158 gr lead round nose bullets. I'll get a target pic up soon.

Absolutely right on for 100 yards off hand shooting, RR. Those targets do get quite small out there, don't they? But bringing in 13/20 POIs in the black, with 9 of them within the 9-ring and 10-ring, has set you a good & tough benchmark. Once you have that ladder figured, you'll see more movement toward the red bull, I'm sure. Looks like a really challenging and fun range visit!

Appreciate the encouraging words. The 200 and 250 yd ranges are beckoning but not until I am confident I won't waste 50 rounds.

The "standing" part was an experiment; should have shot from 1-knee position and maybe the 7 flyers would have hit too. But like I said, the ladder sight is tricky too. One would need to do a lot of long range shooting to become adept.
