Same here and I was also impressed with the overall quality, fit & finish. Granted there are a couple small things I do not like with the Henry but the likes outweigh the dislikes - and after my experiences with a Winchester Trapper AE it was a nice departure.
I still wanted a .357 lever and for me it came down to a Miroku Winchester mod 73 (over twice the price), finding a JM Marlin or a Henry. Well the Henry presented itself first - well actually I was on my way to a LGS to buy a Miroku I had been looking at for some time and it was GONE! Anyway the Henry presented itself in an odd manner and it came home with me the next day - and I am FAR from disappointed!

Mustered, I think you covered all currently practical situations well. And Clovishound, I agree with your viewpoint. I should be more clear. I thinking about something I can use in the current times, and something that can be used in the times foretold if I am here.

Sure, this topic can go in many directions, and a lot would probably be valid. I am just thinking about living in the here and now with an eye toward what is to be. I may be dust when lawlessness increase to the point of uncontrollability. If not, I would like to be able to make the most of what I got. But, that is just me.

Well, I keep an eye toward what is recorded in Matthew 24:1-14 (end time). The seemingly increase of CCW awareness or usage appears to be in direct response to increase of lawlessness. Which, I am not opposed. I just take notice of it. It might be awhile before things get rampaged. But, who can see in the future? So, I just try to do the best I can with what I got. Yet, that is just me.

Not yet - when it comes to spending money I am a serious procrastinator- I tend to look at all the angles before I do anything - I am not impulsive and need to rationalize everything I do - including spending money.

for you all that own or shoot the uberti 73: i am slowly getting into sass. the 73 is the crown jewel. but im not looking for a sass rifle i have a older rossi that i cant begin to outrun and in 38 special cowboy load she just a fun rifle to shoot.

But in you all opinion on a stock uberti 73, 20 in octagon 357, not short stroked or made race ready, bone stock, will they hold up long term and be able to be handed down to a son or grandchild if they have been maintained properly and feed a diet of med loads ie remmy 125gn sjhp's or hornandy 140 leverevolution ammo, remmy 158 grn ?? and im talking 500 to 1000 round monthly ??

and do you consider uberti's quality on par with henry ??

I owned a 1894-1994 Winchester Trapper 44mag and it ran perfect, never had a mishap through 1500rds, I bought it for 500$ and sold it for 650$, I just didn't like the sloppiness of the '94's action. I prefer the Winny's '92 action. I found a late model 1894 Marlin-Remington 44 mag listed as "new and never fired" but found out the seller was a lying POS. The rifle was in new looking condition but I had no experience with Marlin at all. It turned out to be a jamomatic, every round would jam so I researched it and found out you get about 25-100 jam-free rounds when new but then the lifter gets a line worn into it and this causes the jams. I fixed the issue and it cycles as fast as I can cycle it, it spits outs the shells like a full auto firearm.

Marlin is aware of this issue but fail to correct it for reasons I'm not aware of. The rifle now cycles smooth like a Henry but other than the prior jamming problems it's a fine rifle. If you find a late model 1894 for sale you can almost guarantee it jams, you can cock the lever and with a bright flashlight see the worn line on the lifter and if you see a shiny line on the lifter I wound't pay more than 300$ for it and I don't care what condition it is in but I would go 300$, after you fix the jamming the rifle is definitely worth it.

I cant answer you about that but I know there is cowboy action shooting in your area. You could ask them by attending a match. Or I have bought a gun from Jerry at JD Outfitters in Ok City. He is really involved in that CAS and he sells tons of Ubertis Might give him a call.

i have been talking to the cas guys i shoot with but they all use them to cowboy shoot so they have been slicked up and short stroked. which is great for the game, if none of you all have a watched a sass event do your self a favor and go watch just once, the way some of these folks can run a lever gun and saa is short of amazing.

and on the 94 marlin, here in okla, texas, missouri, ark, kansas, finding a good condition jm stamped is pricey, im always looking for a jm stamped cowboy limited 357 octagon but cant justify the 1200-1500 price tag when a new uberti 73 is the same money. and i wont take the risk of the new marlins, not yet anyway but from what im hearing they are getting alot better than the last few years

and the henry's fill my need, they are great looking, well made, and stood behind, for alot less money, but oh man the 73 are nice as well

If I were 'wandering' into the four digit category I would probably go with a Miroku Winchester mod 73.

Hmmm Think I might like the 1892 better. Both are good lookin' but the 1892 shorter receiver and barrel without bands to me looks more elegant.

Just depends on which model you get. I like them both but your picture of the 1873 here is a carbine model. My 1873 doesnt have the barrel bands. Al

I ordered the carbine mainly because it was on sale. I had a Uberti in my wish list but saw this one $100 cheaper and went for it. The carbine I put on layaway shows barrel bands in the picture. The 1892 short rifle has then forearm cap but was over 1K.

My advice if you want a nice 357Mag Lever gun with a loading gate would be to look for an older JM marlin.

I agree - now more than ever after looking at a new Marlin the other day......

I was looking for Marlins on gunbroker but they were all either too expensive and/or required cash payment via money order, etc. No guarantee if what you got was worth the money.
