Is it wrong to want one of each

Today I picked up a .22. I traded a friend one of my Ruger 10/22s even up for it. I love my big boy .357 and my long ranger.243. But now I want one of every caliber.

Sounds like a perfect goal to becoming a Henry collector! Nothing "wrong" if that's what you want.

The first thing that comes to my mind, however, is getting/maintaining ammo stock for each caliber. I have some "like-caliber-firearms" and that approach helps me out. But I have some friends that have a wide assortment of calibers in their gun cabinets, and it works fine for them. The best for you is the best.

As mentioned, go for it if that's your thing. As someone who has been afflicted with chronic "too many guns, too many cartridges" disease, I have to periodically cut back for the sake of being at least somewhat practical. Trust me, it is WAY too easy to get in over your head for the sake of trying to support it all. At some point, you're not becoming a more efficient or more versatile shooter, you're just spending more money.

I must admit I'm one of those multiple caliber guys. After all, does one need both a 7 x 57 Mauser and a 6.5 x 55 Swede? Apparently I do. I guess I'm searching for the optimal cartridge for every possible application, a path that's best avoided . Fortunately, Henry hasn't started chambering single shots in those cartridges yet, so the 45-70 and .243 will probably do (for now ).

Out of curiosity, NCG. What do you consider to be "too many guns?"

We may have done this before on our Forum, but I think an interesting off-shoot thread could be this group of Qs:
"How many guns do you have in your gun cabinet? Is that enough? Why or why not?"

The only other gun I'm looking at is an 1885 Low Wall but it's in my same caliber; 45 Colt. Just like to do some longer distance shooting. I know 45 Colt is not a long range cartridge but I'm a 1 caliber guy. But I can see how a bunch of disposable income could make a person gun-poor in no time.

Im looking at a tenth one now so I hope not or Im in trouble. I found a 22 mag in a small game rifle about 60.00 cheaper than the carbine. Im thinking for that much difference I can live with the 20 inch barrel. Besides it will hold 2 more rounds.

As for how many is too many, just depends if you are looking at it from a shooter's point of view or a collector's. I'm a shooter and it's all I can do to rotate through the guns to see that they get shot on a regular basis. Most of the time it's a losing battle, though, because naturally there are favorites. Others get shot just often enough to keep dust off them.

Come on PT theres no such thing as to many guns. Problem at my house is there isn't enough money to buy all the ones I want.

Cool that your comments touched on the follow-up thread topic I mentioned to NCG. Especially that "theres no such thing as to many guns." Interesting.

Maybe we need to come together and decide on an accurate name for the incurable "chronic affliction" many of us Henry owners have! I always remember Sir Henry's signature line when he wrote: "Hi, my name is Gene and I'm a Henryholic."

BTW, is the .22 mag rifle you're looking at the Henry model? I had one of the H001M Henrys, and like my .22LR SGC, it was very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. It would be a great choice.

Yes its the long barrel version of the SGC. I have been looking and looking at 22 mag asking all kinds of questions about CZ and other 22 mag models but Im still a lever guy first. SGC arent around right now and several have sold off GB. There is one on there but the price on this small game rifle with a 20 inch barrel is about 60.00 less and in fact its less than alot of the 22 mags I have seen for sale. So I think im gonna jump on it. Al

Ya but you gotta be ok with one or two guns in that case Ranchroper because at the price of 45 colt ammo you could buy that Golden Boy 22 u been wanting for a 1000 rounds of 45 colt ammo.
