We put a whole house fan in a window and with the shade provided by the River Birches, may be able to avoid the use of the AC this year on all but the hottest days.

We hit 88* yesterday, and will remain in the upper 80s for next ten days or so. Predicted to get into low 90s also. Seems a tad warm for barely mid May!

And what a reminder of a memory, Marine, as you wrote about adding your whole house fan. Early on together during the 1980s, my wife and I had a 1908 two-story Victorian-style home in northeastern KS, in which we lived over 10 years. No A/C, which was an on-going challenge especially for our daughters. During those 10 years, we also experienced a two-year drought cycle with excessive heat pushing that drought along. I'll never forgot seeing dust storms head our way from the central KS plains. Anyway, I finally installed a 40" whole house fan in the ceiling at the top of the stairs by our three bedrooms. Made a great difference, and along with the tiny gnats drawn in by the fan, they and we all slept much better in somewhat cooler air!

Finally, in our 10th year at that house I bought a 4-ton A/C and all the girls could say was "ahhhh." That same year I had to find another job and we sold that great home, and moved from KS to OR. Like I said, what a memory attached to hot KS weather!

Today I'm living in next-door MO, and having near 90 temps in May. Wonder what it will be like during this next August?!?

When I left the Corps in 1990, I rented for a year, then bought a brand new small house on a one acre lot. It didn't have central air and the window unit was not energy efficient back then. You could see the electric company meter go into turbo mode. We put a whole house fan in the attic, and a spacer block in the pull down stairs. Crack all the windows a couple inches and turn on the fan and that nine hundred eighty square foot house cooled right down.

A few years later, we bought the small farm we own now... sixteen hundred square feet, central air, fifteen acres... nice and quiet. But once again, I'm adding the fan, as much for fresh air as to save a buck.

Haha, thanks. It was time for a change. My wife caught me on way to range last week. She's always prowling around with her camera. It was a good day, just back from morning ride and off to shoot my Henry.

Worked around home all weekend. Lawns all cut, picked up all the mess left behind from plowing snow and drifts left lots of debris too. 70F both days. Horses were out on grass for a bit too.

70's this week. Tea in go cup. In the episode of Westworld last night the main character packed an 1860 Henry the whole time. Dispatched a few bad guys with it too. Plus it was loaded you could see the cartridges in the tube.

Sixty eight now, looking for seventy seven today. Same for the next couple days. Thunderstorms predicted to continue thru the weekend as they have been for the last three days. To be expected. Our annual charity kayak fishing tournament is this weekend. Miss T was the tournament's director for five or six years until my health issues became more of a focus. It has rained nearly every year... and usually turns cold. This hasn't affected the attendance, the tournament sells out, all 175 slots, in less than 48 hours. Usually closer to 24.

It's not about the prizes, or the trophies. It's about the food, the friends, the fishing, and the positive attitude.
