I didn't make it out of the driveway
On Friday, the morning I was to leave on an 18 day trip to Brandon, MO, I noticed water under the refrigerator. I pulled it out and the hardwood floors underneath were soaked. I found the leak quickly as it was the ice maker. Long story short is that I couldn't leave for at least another day. Then the next day revealed more damage as the already leaked water spread. Then today it grew even more. I believe a lot of water is trapped between the hardwood and the sub-floor. I'm not sure if I'll ever get out of town to make it to Branson by the first.
Tomorrow I'm going under the house to see what is happening down there.

Water silently does so much damage so fast. Good luck with it.

Hate to hear your trip is on hold. Hope the best for you and you can make the reunion.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday.

Gene, sure sorry to hear about your ice maker creating a sub-floor "pond." Not too long ago my disposal under the kitchen sink developed an un-noticed leak, and eventually flooded two of my cabinets out. Heck of a way to re-arrange all those kitchen supplies!! Eventually, got everything spic & span again.
If you need help with a recovery day for travel or whatever, you can re-work your travel plans and by-pass coming through KCMO on our planned Friday, April 27th. That's okay by me. It's more important that you get to have your time with your service friends at the reunion time in Branson. Just let me know if anything needs to change.
Take good care. When you do get on the road, travel safely!

Have dealt with many issues like this. It is never as easy as it first seems. Good luck. Hope you get on your way soon.

Re: I didn't make it out of the driveway
Thanks all for the replies. If I can’t leave by tomorrow I’m going to cancel the teardrop trip and fly out. The floor looks bad and might need to be tore out and new wood installed.

Re: I didn't make it out of the driveway
I only turned the ice maker on about two weeks ago. As bad as everything looks now it might dry looking a lot better. After I check in the crawl space I’m going to Home Depot to buy a dehumidifier.

Be glad you found this BEFORE you left!
If you haven't already, it may help to drill a few holes up through the sub floor from the crawl.
This would help facilitate things drying out.
Hope things work out.

Good luck with the repair, luckily you caught it BEFORE you left. Finding the entire house flooded on your return would have been... bad.

Re: I didn't make it out of the driveway
When I bought my last new fridge, the Ice Maker lines and connections looked so "flimsy" that I didn't even install it. We've been just making Ice the old fashion way.
It's great you caught it before you left as others have mentioned.

Which reminds me. Anytime we go out of town for overnight or longer, we always cut the Water off. But if anyone does, be sure to cut your Hot Water Heater off first.BrokenolMarine wrote:Good luck with the repair, luckily you caught it BEFORE you left. We do the same, and it give a peace of mind when you are away to know that it's one thing you DON'T have to worry about... LOL.

In the past I have always only turned the rubber hose off going to the washing machine.
