Boom -- supersonic jet travel

I almost posted this chat under the "Hobbies - Travel" sub-forum. But since I really didn't travel anywhere, and this is about an in-the-works, future way to fly, I'm settling back in our Henry Lounge with you for a few minutes.

During this last week I've seen a couple of web news reports about this company, boom. https://boomsupersonic.com/
Their web site is purely promotional about their work/plans to build supersonic jets for public air travel. I think I read a statement they made: "We are picking up where the Concorde left off."

I'm sharing this only because I really like cool pictures of jets (maybe because I'm former USAF). I also like the techonology and potentials of either air or space travel. The jet this company is working on is projected to reach high Mach speeds, and fly at a very high altitude.

I plan to use this one picture I copied from their site as my desktop display.

Thanks PT. As an Air Force brat, nothing flies without me looking. I too am very interested in future projects.

I am sorely disappointed that I cannot go to a hotel on the moon. We have been lagging.

Yes, almost a little like "jet lag."
I remember distinctly where I was at, what I was doing and thinking, when Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon. And I will never forget watching Walter Cronkite wringing his hands in pure glee. Very cool.

However, a flight on boom would be exciting. It would be something else to see the curvature of the earth from that height!

Speaking of flight technology advances, the recent SpaceX Falcon Heavy Side Boosters landing simultaneously at the Kennedy Space Center was just spectacular.

This is a little off topic, but when did the FAA or whomever ban "sonic booms"? I remember when I was a young'un the local Air Force Reserve base flew fighters, (not sure, seems like they were F-86's). They would break the sound barrier 2-3 times a week, I think just to agitate my Grandma . Then when they went to Flying Boxcars she was afraid someone was going to fall out the back when they flew over. Now the C-130's rattle the windows, but as my son says- "that's the sound of freedom".
