Cow Country

Here's a couple from a few years back. The photo of my wife's late mare "Magic" and I on the Waldron Ranch in southern Alberta. Taken by a professional photographer for a stock photo website. Then one day my wife is in Wal-Mart and sees this book on the shelf. Haha.

Here's one from the largest fall gather I've been on. Fall '07. 2,250 head total. Big crew, all day. You don't see that many cows lined out on the trail much anymore. It was quite a sight. In this photo we are getting ready to move through a gate so the boss can get a count on them.

Thanks for these wonderful photos, RanchRoper. In my little 21st century world, you are a living cowboy legend. I talk with friends about you and your work and your lifestyle from what you write and show us here almost as much as people I've actually met and admired for decades, and these pictures beautifully illustrate the reasons.

RanchRoper,

I'm right there with CT and Dutch, and thoroughly enjoy your photos -- both of your cowboy work, and the beautiful pictures in Canada. Thanks for posting, and keep them coming!

They are welcome, just as the pics you'll be posting of your new Henry!

An aside. When my wife and I lived in northwest OR for several years, we were blessed with the visits we made to British Columbia. That was both through my job, and we also vacationed there. Just beautiful country. Right now my youngest daughter, who still lives just south of Portland, works as a US and international tour guide. Just last year she led a group tour in the Canadian Rockies. Her photos were gorgeous, too, and are keepers.

I liked the book cover photo for River Range. Kind of neat, too, to see the picture of Magic.

The fella who took it was along for the whole day, and took lots of photos of all kinds of things. Full marks for lugging all that gear around all day!

It was a hot day and what you don't see is that my mare would NOT have a drink from that water hole! It's true what they say...you can lead them to water but...

I found a disc that I saved a bunch of pics to a couple of years ago. Saved them because I changed cell phones. I'll see what other photos I have. May have a few more that you folks might enjoy. Obviously I never tire of taking pics of the life and the view. Stay tuned...

His name is Dakota. He's a real handy guy. He's the poor guy who got a rope burn on his front leg at a branding a few weeks ago. But he's real solid to rope big stock on, and is a very comfortable all day ride. He's flashy for sure!
